Alaska Cruise for us DISers on RCCL Jewel of the Seas 6/12-19/2015 (Official Thread)

Just requested a quote for this cruise-have been looking for a first cruise for my husband and kids, and the dates and the location for this one work well for us as we are in oregon a little concerned about the itinerary as the research I've done on alaska cruises doesn't indicate this is an ideal itinerary-any thoughts on that? And anyone else cruised on this ship with kids before? Ours will be 5 and 9 at sailing.

From my research a more ideal itinerary would sail inside of Vancouver island and go into Glacier Bay, plus maybe a stop at Ketchikan which would however cut your time short in Victoria. But leaving from Seattle rather than Vancouver (which is where you would probably have to depart to sail east of the island) is so convenient for us Oregonians, just a few hours in the car or train and you are there. And I have read that Tracy Arm is maybe not quite as great as Glacier Bay but still spectacular. Plus that full day in Victoria will be great with the kids. We have sailed on the Serenade which is a sister ship to the Jewel and it is gorgeous and I think will be great for the kids.

Bridget and Linda, I will miss you! :sad2: And I won't see you next month, but hopefully next February!

Need some suggestions for a hotel the night before sailing. Please share.

It's a great day to be alive!!!

Val & I haven't finalized our travel plans, but I did make a "just in case" reservation at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront for 3 pre-cruise nights.

Unfortunately you will need to remove sierranevada and lulubelle (Bridget & Linda). We have had to cancel - the timing was just not good for either one of us.

Have a wonderful time!

Sorry to hear you gals aren't going on the cruise - we were going to be neighbors!

My friends and I found a decent rate at the Crowne Plaza. We're coming in Wednesday before the cruise.

Val & I are looking to come in early for the cruise. We've got a favorite winery in the Columbia River Valley (Chateau Ste. Michelle) and I understand its a fairly short drive away so a winery tour seems to be in the cards.

i'll be on the radiance of the seas, southbound out of seward in July.
I'm going with my 88 year old mom on her bucket list trip to alaska.
She's always dreamed of going on the glass domed train. I was so surprised to hear that. I didn't even know she knew about it.

So we'll spend 5 days in inland alaska, then on the radiance of the seas.

one day i will actually be on a cruise with disers.

I'm getting excited for our cruise. Looking at hotels now for the night before. Has everyone booked their airfare yet? Just wondering when the best time to book will be.

Too bad Walla Walla wasn't closer, you could hit Doubleback ...and visit Drew Bledsoe.

Thinking of reserving this one instead of the one we have reserved earlier in June.
If we book 2 rooms because we will have more than 5 people, do they book your rooms together or how are the rooms assigned in a group cruise when reserving more than one stateroom?
Thanks in advance.

We booked our flights (finally)! LOVE that Alaska Airlines flies direct from Fresno to Seattle. Any suggestions for transfers from the airport to the port? 2 adults, 2 kids.

You will pick your specific staterooms. Some people like to find connecting rooms, others might put parents in a balcony room and kids across the hall, etc.

Getting excited. We will be leaving here in just three months to go to Seattle to catch the ship.

Wow, only 3 months?? I can't believe it is that close!

I know we had some chat nights before the last DISCruise. Anyone know if there are any plans for something similar for this one?? I don't know if the chat rooms even still exist, but it was a really nice way to get to know folks before the cruise.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is just 20 miles away from Seattle and takes about 30 minutes driving time. It's one of my favorite wineries.

Great. I need to look into a car service for that. Don't want to be sampling the wines and have to drive back to the hotel.

Hey Mary Jo! You can add Theresa and I to this cruise!!! It's going to be a long wait!!!

Sad to report that Theresa and won't make it this time... these new jobs are sure getting in the way of our vacations!!
