ALASKA - August 30th, 2011 - Mickeys Mooseketeers & the last Alaskan Cruisade! New Th

I am bummed to report that we will have to bow out of this cruise with everyone. :sad2:

Hi all... just as I am finishing up my FE gifts, I have fallen and broken my ankle... so this cruise is in jeopardy of being cancelled/postponed until next year, at least for me... Depends on how much of my personal vacation time I have to use and how much is covered by my employer, it was a work related accident, so I don't know for sure yet...

Pixie Dust sorry to see you go.

betsy hope you heal up fast and fingers crossed you still get to come with us.:thumbsup2

Oh Betsy, my ankle hurts thinking about yours. Hope it heals quickly for you:hug:

:dance3:Well I am officially PIF today:dance3:

Made reservations last night for the Sutton Place booked 2 bedroom rooms. Slowly but surely it is coming together:)

How much was Sutton Place for one room? I have been looking at hotwire and it looks like the one they offfer is sheraton Wall Center for $135 plus tax.

Thanks Paula for taking over. We rebooked this morning and hopefully everything will work out better.

What is the new link for the thread?

I've noticed a majority of the cabins above are on the starboard side of the ship. Is this just conincidence or is this the preferred viewing side?

Thanks!

I just picked the best room from what was left for best location on the ship. I personaly feel with the inside passage it does not matter if you are on the port or starboard side.

Can you email me the logo you have? I think an emailed copy might be better than the one on here.

Tracy it was $309 CAD a night.:sad2: Wohoo they give you a $50 credit per room per stay to use at the hotel. I will probably end up switching one of them to just a regular room. Doris still hasn't found someone to travel with.

There just isn't a lot of choices when it comes to wanting a 2 bedroom. We usually stay at the Marriott Residence Inn, but Vancouver didn't have one.

I have never used any of the bidding sites and don't want to get stuck with something that I don't want. Sutton Place is on the Entertainment list for 50 off or 10% off best rate, but it wasn't good for the 2 bedroom rooms.

Our first time going there were 6 of us. (Bill and I and our four kids) we stayed at Rosedale On Robson Suite Hotel. We walked from there to the port. The harest thing in 2006 was finding how to get to the hotel form the airport. I did some looking and it looked liket he taxies did not hold 6 only 4 at the most. So we ended up taking a lemo from and to the airport. The last time in 2009 we flew in the day of the cruise and home the last day. We took a lemo from the air port was told one price at the airport by one of the lemo poeple and then a different guy drove us to the cruise port and he wanted more money than what we were told and they are so busy at the cruise port what do you do? So we paid the higher amount and swore we would never use them again. We took the train from the cruise port back to the air port after the cruise.

This time if the hotel is close enough we will take the train both ways.

Vancouver 'had' a residence inn - I stayed there and it was nice, and it switched to something else - let me dig for you and try and figure out what its called now! I think I did a review on tripadvisor so it should help me out!

I am hoping to get a hotel on hotwire.com. I am hoping closer to cruise time they might have more options than the one they offer right now.

Vancouver gets lots of more last minute stuff on hotwire!

PBADER! Here it is - this used to be the Marriott Residence Inn

Thanks Liz, I appreciate the link. When I looked at their site the other day, I couldn't see where they had 2 bedrooms. Just the sofa and when we are sharing the cost of the room, it's really not to fair for one to have the nice bedroom and the other the pullout.

I have a friend at Marriott so I always get their rate and makes for a nice discount most of the time. Honestly, Sutton Place was in line with the other 2 places I found that I had 2 bedrooms. And it isn't a bad rate at all when we divide it in 2. :)

Now what would you recommend for sight seeing on the evening of the 28th and all day on the 29th. May even try to see something on the 30th before we board, no need to do that before 3pm anyways. I printed info out on Stanley Park, Lynn Canyon Park, Gas Town and there was some place else that has escaped me at the moment.

Skip Gas Town - overrated! There is really not much there - a couple of tourist trap shops, restaurants & its really getting invaded by the homeless, as its close to where they all are.
Here is a good map: http://www.tourismvancouver.com/pdf/2009_vancouver_map.pdf (takes a bit load)

You want to go GRANVILLE ISLAND!!!
That is a must do in Vancouver- you will love it! You can take the little boat across to it for about 2 bucks - go to the south end of horby street. There is a great market there and good food, and tons of great stuff to look around.

Stanley Park is great - lots to see and do there.

Thanks Liz!!!:goodvibes I appreciate it, I'll take your advice and skip Gas Town. August will be here before I know it:banana::banana:

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your broken ankle. I hope that there isn't too much red tape for you and that you will be able to keep your vacation.

Two months before we took our last DCL cruise in 2007 I had a bad bicycle accident and broke my ankle. Thankfully, it was a clean break. I worked from home for the first week and then took 5 weeks of disability. No weight bearing for 6 weeks. When we went on the cruise, I had to wear my boot and use my crutches on excursions. On the ship I alternated between my boot, a sneaker or a flip flop. I was lucky because I had full pay between state disability and my employer and didn't lose any time. My fingers are crossed for you! :goodvibes

thanks for the map.

Can you tell us what area are the homesless in?

East Vancouver Pender & East Hastings is kind of the 'icky' area, but they won't hurt you or anything - just some of the druggies and prostitutes around there. I would walk down the street and not even worry, in fact I have.
Might not want to at night, but daytime we were fine, but not a 'tourist' area.
Robson Street is really great for shopping- think of all the mall stores on a street!

Anyone with kids has to check out the kids market at granville island! Its great!
