Alaska ~ 8/13/12 ~ Midnight Sun Mouseketeers!

Hi everyone,
There is a good thread on the main board about questions regarding the DCL cruises to Alaska. People are coming up with some really good questions that they are hoping the people on the first cruise of the Wonder to Alaska will answer either now (in blog form) or when they get back. The first cruise to Alaska is going on right now! Here's the thread:

And here are a couple of blogs from cruisers on the Wonder right now:

Thanks for the heads up about the post. I actually had already subscribed to it and was looking forward to seeing what people had to say. I did see another post about a new menu night called "A Taste of Alaska" or something like that. It is in place of the Pirate menu. Alaska king crab legs were on the menu...yum!! Even elk...which I don't think I am adventurous enough to try! :)

Amazing pics! I wonder if there will be that much ice/snow in the area when we are there in August. I can't wait to see trip reports!

Happy Mother's Day to you guys, too! I hope it's a fun one!

Yesterday I took the twins out to lunch (their dad is in Europe right now) and then we shopped a bit. We saw some kids' fleece jackets on sale at LLBean and I immediately thought of the Alaska cruise next year. Needless to say, temptation got the better of me and I ended up pulling out the credit card! :rolleyes1

Hello all,

I just booked the cruise for 3 adults. I have been on disney cruise line twice (western carribbean, bahmas) almost ten years ago with my ex. This trip is a gift for my mother (Gloria) and her friend (John). She has tried to do an Alaska cruise for several years but with her friend John having some medical issues (now clear) and waiting too long to book (and having the price go up) she has not been able to do it.

I had great experiences on Disney cruises before and believe that this make an easy trip as well.

Stateroom 2608 is the assigned room (and I see it formally was the room to another poster on here), second seating for dinner.

I look forward to all the planning and excitment in the year to come.

Joe

I am near Allentown Pennsylvania (made famous by the Billy Joel song) and work as a school superintendent. Big Disney fan since I was 5.

Really looking forward to cruising with Disney again. I also hope as we get closer the mouse can extend some of those port times.

Hi Joe, and welcome! Again, it's a small world. I spend 8 years of my childhood in Bethlehem, PA, and have some great memories from that time. It's a beautiful area! We're glad to have you onboard!

Thanks for the link. I watched it yesterday. I can't believe how amazing Alaska looks! I love the barbecue idea, and the kids club being moved to deck 10 to allow the kids partake in the beauty of Tracy Arm. Did you catch they have a junior ranger program? My kids did that in Yellowstone last summer and really had fun doing it. The panning for gold looks fun, and something we'll probably look into doing. I wonder if it is a bit too young for my who will be 13 year old at that time. Maybe the prospect of getting some gold will bypass the "lame" puppet show. (his words! lol)

Can't wait to see the next installment of the video blog! Do we really have to wait until next year?

Wow very close to Bethlehem. If you havent been back in a while they have really keep the city up quite well with small shops and bistros. We also have a casino on the south side of Bethlehem.

Hi Joe! I see you got my room. :)

The recent pictures and youtube videos make me so excited - I don't know how I can wait over a year for this. I suppose our port adventures will be a bit different, since it looks like we don't have full days like the current cruises do. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to see an iceberg up close.

Joe, were you on the Wonder on your past cruises?

Yes, we have your room. I thought I did something wrong in booking when I saw your post but then read the rest of the thread and calmed down, lol.

Previous trip was on a 7 day western on the magic and 3 day bahamas on the wonder.

Wish me luck everyone! DH and I are flying to Florida tomorrow, staying at the Radisson at the Port, and getting on the Dream on Thursday for a quick 3 night to the Bahamas. We're leaving the children behind but plan to bring them back lots of Disney stuff. It will definitely be a different cruise w/o seven year olds! We plan on taking them on a double dip on the Dream in August, so this gives the adults the chance to scope it all out! I'll report back on Monday!:)

THanks Jodi and Stacy, We made an early morning trip over to Ron Jons, walked on the beach, and getting ready to check out of the Radisson to head over to the ship. Yay! I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.:cool1::cool1:

Hi everyone, We had a great cruise on the Dream last week. The ship is beautiful. Only bad thing was that love bugs were swarming around the port -- apparently they show up a couple of times a year. They don't bite, but some kids were really freaked out. Once we left port, the bugs disappeared!

Our time in the Bahamas was full of perfect weather. We went to Atlantis --talk about huge! My husband did the water slides while I read a book. Castaway Cay was the next day -- again, perfect weather. We went without the kids so it was great seeing them when we walked into the house upon our return.

All I can say is that Disney really knows what it is doing when it comes to cruising!

How is everyone doing? When does the school term end for all of you? Here in Virginia, the last day of elementary school for my kids is on June 21st.
