Alaska ~ 8/13/12 ~ Midnight Sun Mouseketeers!

Hi guys...love the countdown!

Am I understanding this right, that we can start booking online tonight at midnight? Is that EST or PST? I'm guessing EST, but would love it if anyone can clue me in.

I think we decided on booking only 1 excursion. We're thinking on the shorter port days in Juneau and Ketchikan, that we'll just leave the ship and explore the town, as well as do some hiking. If the weather is nice in Juneau, we're going to catch one of those $7 shuttles to Mendenhall Glacier and go hiking. Also, after taking the tram (kinda pricey though, right?), there are hiking trails up on the top. In Ketchikan, downtown looks pretty neat with all the historic buildings. We may try to do the lumberback show, but we'll see how tired out the kids are of spending time with us! jk lol

I'm so excited, and it's hard not to to think about our vacation.

Yes, EST. I still don't know what we are doing yet. After the kids go to bed, DH and I will mull things over and then see what's available when booking opens.

Ok, it does not seem possible that ALL of the Palo brunch AND dinner reservations for parties of 2 or 4 are gone 2 minutes after the Silver CC booking window opens. Was anyone able to make these tonight? I'm getting no availability for any day.

I saw multiple windows for both. Got brunch on Tracy Arm day and dinner on the last evening. I was able to get almost all the shore excursions that I wanted. Unfortunately, there was no availability for the Dog Musher for a Day in Juneau. I wish it would just say sold out up front, instead of letting me select a time, thinking, then saying too bad.

*Edit* - I still see tons of availability for the brunch on Day 2, 3, and 7. Try refreshing the page.

Correction - I now know why the Dog Musher for a Day wasn't saying sold out. It's because there was 1 spot left, and I was trying for two. So, like the good husband I am, I booked the spot for my wife, and I'm doing the Dog Sledding by Helicopter instead. Oh well...Maybe one person will cancel...

I also see tons of availability for brunches and dinners so something wacky must be going on. Perhaps log out and log back in?

Here is what I booked:
Skagway: White Pass Scenic Railway and Exclusive Youth Activity at 8am
Juneau: Alaska Whales and Science Adventure at 8am
Ketchikan: Misty Fjords (booked through Island Wings) at 8am

Palo dinner on Tracy Arm day and then I booked brunch on the Victoria day (but will cancel that if the brunch in the private dining room happens).

Hey there -- do you want me to add you to our Roll Call on our first page? If so, let me know your particulars and I'll make it happen!

Glad it worked out for you to get the Dog Musher for a Day. The Dog Sledding by Helicopter sounds pretty nice too! :)

Here is what I got:

Day 2 (at sea): Palo Brunch
Day 3 (tracy arm): Palo Dinner
Skagway: Takshanuk 4x4 11:15 am - 5:45 pm
Juneau: Gold panning 7:15 am , Mt Roberts Tramway (all day)
Ketchikan: Lumberjack show 7:30 am
Victoria: Horse-pulled trolley tour 6:01 pm

I may be off with the times a little. The only thing I may change in the next few days is Skagway. There is a seasonal bear viewing trip that we may do instead.

I'm happy!

When I checked again this morning, it is now not letting me book the non-Silver stateroom, though it will let me book for us. I guess this is a new restriction since our cruise last August.

Has anyone called DCL to get the tentative schedule of dinners/ themes? (Or is it on here somewhere and I missed it?) I'm wondering which nights are the rotational dinners, etc. The first cruise of 2012 gets back May 28-- I can't wait to see the navigators!

What I was able to glean from the other boards from the cruises last year is posted on page one, post two. Rumor has it that there will be no pirate night this summer. They had it last year even though there were no fireworks. Still no fireworks this summer too due to wildlife issues.

I got everything I wanted! WOO HOO

Check in at 11:00

Sea Day-Spa
Tracy Arm- Palo Brunch 12:30 (will cancel if we get private room. What day are we aiming for???)
Skagway-Evening Wildlife Expedition
Juneau-Alaska Salmon Bake, Glacier and Hatchery
-dinner at Palo 6:30
Ketchikan-Bear Country and Wildlife Expedition
Victoria-No plans just going to wonder the town and maybe check out Miniature museum

I love it when my plans work out! It only cost me a little sleep! LOL

I was able to get reservations to Palo for brunch on the Tracy Arm day. There were several spots open when I signed up. We were also lucky enough to get all our shore excursions booked Also we will be in stateroom 7565.

Yay - 85 days until blast off. We have booked our excursions:

Skagway -- White Pass Scenic Railway (12.30 trip)
Juneau -- Alaska's Ultimate Canopy and Zipline
Ketchikan -- Rainforest Canopy and Zipline

With Palo's Brunch on Victoria Day (unless our group one works out -- or maybe twice who knows).

(I would recommend the rock climbing adventure at Skagway if anyone is feeling outdoorsy. We did that last year and it was very good. I was totally terrified when I had to repel down a huge cliff -- but I did it. It makes my hands sweat just looking at the pictures. I would do it again but Bron (aged 11) says a definite no -- laugh -- too scary. Both of us are on the photo)

Now all we have to do is start getting our Fish Extender gifts organized. Hmmmmm -- what shall we make?

Good Morning Everyone!!!
I can't believe how quickly the trip is approaching! We have all of our excursions figured out too. Here goes:
Skagway: Liarsville panning for gold with a Character
Juneau: Mount Roberts tram and Mendenhall Glacier (both on our own)
Ketchikan: This on is tricky, My in laws are taking my ds (10) and dd (7) on the potlatch park with youth activity and lumberjack show excursion while my dh and I are taking our ds (3) to both on our own since Disney won't let me book the excursion for ds (3) because he is under 5. We did get tickets to a disney exclusive show through lumberjack website so it might be the one the rest of the family is at.
Victoria: My 2 sister in laws booked the pub tour.
So now that all of those are figured out, who has started to think about what to pack? This confuses me the most! Sometime I've seen pictures of people on the alaska cruise last year in shorts and sometimes it seems like they are completely bundled. We are traveling from Philadelphia and I'm worried about all the luggage. Does anyone have any ideas yet?
Thanks!
Barb

I plan on packing lots of layers -- no thick coat or anything like that. Definitely waterproof parkas and fleecy vests and some long underwear. I plan on bringing extra leggings for the kids too as I have a feeling they will get wet, especially if they get to go up on the top deck during Tracy Arm for the outdoor kids club. They are so wanting to swim (the pool, I hear, is definitely heated) so the plan is also to bring them some robes so that they can jump into them after getting out of the water. Since we will be in Seattle three days before, I do plan on packing shorts -- I'm on the lookout for some outdoorsy pants that zip off into shorts as that will serve double duty. We all will be bringing good waterproof trekker type of shoes too. Though we tend to really dress up for dining on previous cruises, this time I think I'll be bringing a black skirt that I can wear with different nice tops that will make my suitcase lighter. Same for the girls. Steve will be bringing a black sport coat that he can dress up or down.

The only other thing I've thought about is getting something that matches (perhaps red scarves or something) so that we can perhaps get a good photo for a Christmas card alongside a character in their Alaska costumes. I need to go through my scarf and mitten bin to see if I've got anything.

Hi Everyone,

Family trip for 9 of us to the Great White North. I am from Fairfield County, CT and my brother Eric is from Long Island, NY:

Room 7040/7042:

Rob (44), Mary (44), Tyler (14 boy), Alex (11 boy), Jack (8 boy)

Room 7038:

Eric (41), Shannon (41), Rebecca (12 girl), Kaitlin (10 girl)

We would all like to participate in the Fish Extender fun.

Just realized that we are booked for the main (early) dinner seating. Seeing if we can change to the late seating.

While we are silver and could book now, my brother isn't and cant book until the end of the month, so to ensure we could all do things together we booked all of our own excursions independently.

We are doing White Pass Rail, Heli-Glacier + dogsled, Misty Fjord floatplane, and the Lumberjack Show.

I doubt we will even get off the boat in Victoria.
