Was wondering if anyone has booked their Vancouver hotel yet for their Alaska cruise 2016. If so, where did you book and please tell me if or how you got a great price??? I've been checking and am shocked at the hotel prices!!!

Thanks so much!

Area the prices you are being quoted in US dollars or Canadian? That might account for some of the sticker shock.

The most popular will be the Pan Pacific. It will also command the highest rates. Some say a year out is too soon, but as it gets closer rates will dip and then go up again. There's discussions about booking through certain sites that offers good rates.

Vancouver have many hotels to fit many budgets. Blue Horizon and Landmark are more affordable options. The savings will cover the cab costs to cruise terminal.

The prices have been in Canadian dollars which is good for me since I live in Ontario. I have definitely been checking out the Pan Pacific but the 2016 summer dates are not yet loaded into their system.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Delta Suites Vancouver is a good option, not far from the port and decent rates (not sure if they are posted for summer 2016 yet though).

Have you tried using Last Minute Travel for checking prices. We have a great price (136 a night) for a hotel a couple of blocks away from Canada Place.

Anyone know when the Pan Pacific usually opens up booking? We're looking at June 2016, so obviously we've got some time!

I'm looking at the pan pacific for aug 2016. I've seen stuff about Hotwire so I may try that, but it seems like it's too early to even attempt to book anything.

We booked the Pan Pacific on January 13, 2014 (for our Alaska cruise on August 11, 2014) using Hotwire. Rack rate on the room was over $400 all the times that we checked. We got it on Hotwire for $176 a night (2 night stay). For an extra $60 a night, we were able to upgrade from the city view (what is given with hotwire) to a Premier Corner Harbor View room. The was done directly through the hotel. And it was worth every penny. ;)

How did you know which one was the pan pacific? I have to book a night before a night after so I figure I'll do the night after and if I get the other top property (there are two) listed for that night, I'll pick the other for the pre-cruise stay!

How did you handle the upgrade? Did you call directly once you completed the hotwire reservation piece?

My dh works for a large chain hotel and I know you can book rooms 365 days out. I wouldn't doubt if that is how many hotels roll out their reservations. I will be booking on the first possible day for my August 2016 cruise.

This was the amenity set when I booked but since it is well over a year old now, I'm sure it has changed. At the time, there was only one other hotel that was showing up (I think Four Seasons) and it was listed as having an indoor pool. So if I saw indoor pool, I knew it was the wrong one.

Vancouver Downtown - Coal Harbour - Stanley Park Area
Hotwire - 85% recommended (273 reviews), overall satisfaction 4 1/2
Tripadvisor - 4.5 out of 5

Amenities included:
Pet Friendly
Fitness Center
Pool(s)
Restaurant(s)
Business Center
Self-service Laundry
Internet Access
Spa Services

Accesibility - Accessible for the deaf.

Yes, I contacted the hotel directly (via email) and let them know I had a hotwire booking that I wanted to upgrade. There were no regular Harbor View rooms left so she quoted me the $60 for the Premier corner room. It was huge, which was nice for 4 people and a ton of luggage. Plus it looked down over the ship. :)

Great advice...I played with August dates this year and I get two different properties with similar amenities...

Thanks so much for all this great advice. I really appreciate everyone's help.

We were in Vancouver for 5 nights before our cruise and wanted something with a little more homey feel that had a kitchen and washer & dryer. We chose to stay at the Times Square Suites which is in the West End near Stanley Park. It is an apartment style hotel and we stayed in a 2-bedroom with a living room, kitchen, and washer/dryer. We had 9 people in our party and needed several rooms so this was a much cheaper route for us to go. This hotel is in a great neighborhood with a Starbucks just outside the door and a grocery store and liquor store just across the street. It was very easy to get from this hotel to Stanley Park, downtown, and it's on the west end of Robson Street. The employees at this hotel were amazing and we really enjoyed our stay and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We booked the Fairmont Waterfront through AMEX travel. Wonderful location. We stayed on the club level and you could see the boat from the club level patio. Had breakfast/coffee/snacks available in their lounge which was great for traveling with little ones. Could also check Fairmont directly as they often run specials as well. they transported our bags to the ship for us and when we were ready we just walked right across the street. We were very pleased. Enjoy your trip!!!

Thank you again for your ideas. DVC4US and coloradocutie - I will certainly look into both your suggestions. They sound great!!!
