So the husband on his own brought up doing the Alaska Cruise with ABD add on instead of the Med. I didn't freak (but I came close) and told him I would ask on the boards to see if anyone did anyone did or is going to do the ABD add on with Alaska.

Now we are not going till 2013 and we wont know what ABD will be doing add on wise for a while as well as the cost. Can we bet that what they currently have listed on their website for Alaska will be what they offer in 2013? Anyone going on Alaska 2012 cruise and using ABD? I was hoping for some feedback from those with any Alaska Cruise ABD experience.

Hey, HG! :goodvibes I'm thinking, if you can find the ABD add-on info from last year (2011) that would be more like 2013, since 2011 had the longer port times, and the same itinerary as 2013, whereas 2012 had shorter port times since they are sailing out of Seattle this year rather than Vancouver. For instance, the really-well-liked dog mushing/helicopter excursion from 2011 is not on the list for 2012. I'm assuming it's due to the odd & short port times, but who knows? 2012 may give you some idea of what the ABD will be like, but 2010 would probably be closer.

If the ABD itinerary goes back to what we had in 2011, it was worth every penny. We absolutely were so glad that we added ABD - saw way more than others on the cruise. But, for sure, the highlight was the dog sledding up on a glacier (eliminated for 2012). If that's back for 2013, go for it!

Oh by the way, the cruise itself was awesome as well!

Looking at the title of your post again, HG, are you asking about the short trips they had before the cruise, in Vancouver? I don't think those sold well, as they released them too close to the cruises, and most people had already bought flights, etc, and couldn't change their itineraries. They may have even been cancelled, I don't remember at this point.

They definitely wouldn't have those this year, as they are sailing out of Seattle this year, not Vancouver. If you can find them, you can look at 2011, but I wouldn't count on the pre-trips until you actually see them.

Thank You for that feedback! It looks like the dog sledding was replaced by a flight over the glacier. Not sure if I want to be in one of those planes. We are dog people as well so yeah for sledding.

Yes I initially was looking for ABD Vancouver pre trip but then got side tracked in my asking. So do we know when ADB will release the add on's for all the 2013 cruises including the med? Will it be in August when they announce any new(if there are any) ABD itinerary's?

I'm trying to remember when they announced this year's. They announced 2011's add-ons really late -- nowhere near when they announced the regular ABD's. And I'm thinking 2012's haven't been out that long. I'll let you know if I come across a date.

Sounds great! My husband and I wewre reflecting on our 2007 QFTW and how we are ready to do something that incoerporates them as well as DCL. It really is the best of both worlds. I will tell you that the Storybook Fairt Tale trip to Germany with the new fancy website is so so so inticing....Oh to hit the lotto:)

I'd advocate doing an add on/land tour as part of an Alaska Cruise. I didn't use DCL or ABD for my trip, but we did 7 day cruise with 8 days land tour with a small outfitter in AK. Absolutely the best decision we made. Seeing the interior, rivers, wildlife, Denali etc, was great, really the cruise is just one small part of the state and the ecosystem of AK. It was wonderful seeing more of that great state!

Dahly has reported that ABD told him they'd be announcing the Med Cruise add-ons in April some time.

I don't know if the same will be true for Alaska or not.

They're apparently adding a pre-cruise add-on for Madrid, as well as the Barcelona one. So they must be popular!
