Before I pack an alarm clock, I want to confirm that SSR studios do NOT have alarm clocks. I have heard the alarm clocks have been removed from villas. TIA!

We were just there this past weekend and I can confirm - no alarm clocks.

I can also confirm, no alarm clocks in the one bedroom as well. I felt lost without a clock. I wake up several times to check on the time. Why did they remove the clocks?

I have just started using the alarms and clock on my cell phone. Keep it by the bed. Easier to set than a clock anyway.

IMO it is a reasonable choice but I think the resorts normally have them and you can call to have one delivered. Has anyone not been able to get one at SSR when they called and asked?

My completely uneducated guess about the alarm clocks is this: Disney bought iHomes for every room at Disney World. Then Apple decided to change the plug at the end of the charging cable on its iPhones, and the iHomes would not work with them. Also, many people arrived in their rooms to discover that the time was wrong on the iHomes, possibly because the previous guest had unplugged them to use the outlet; then the new guest could not figure out how to change the time. So Disney said the heck with this. Get rid of them and don't replace them. Let people use the alarms on their cell phones.

It was always stupid to go with an ihome in a hotel room IMO. But Jobs was on the board at the time.

Now it's stupid to not have a bedside clock IMO. I was happy to find that DL has not done the same thing.

Or, the clocks grew feet and walked.

Alarm clocks are a thing from the past. My kids have always used their phones. My wife uses her phone. I still use an alarm clock radio just out of habit. I would rather they spend my maintenance money on something else.

So for those who don't have, nor want, a phone, they either go without or get a phone because it would raise dues a dime to pay for a $10 alarm clock for the room?

Miss the clocks very much (don't want to use iPhone) but great explanation.

We are that family that had to call for help to get the right time on whatever device was in the room. I use the microwave 's time now.

I'm with you there. I don't have or want an iphone, but do have an old flip phone. But to read the time, I have to put on my glasses, and usually turn on additional light as well. Can't see small things without strong light.
Like Bobbi, I set the microwave to the correct time, and rely on it while in the room. :cutie:

Kicking and screaming those who do not have a smart phone will either die or finally get one.

They really should supply record players, eight track players, and CD players for those who haven't yet embraced streaming.

I'd say it would be a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of a cent in dues. And of course they actually had clocks in all the rooms and removed them. From what I heard they started out available to cast members to buy.

Sorry, but I refuse to be a Lemming. Like my mother always said "If 10 other people jump off the bridge does that mean you have to do it too?" I am so sick of everyone and I mean literally everyone walking and/or driving around with those things glued to their heads. Can't function without them. It's a sad commentary if you ask me (and thankfully, nobody did).

Exactly what was said by older others when you bought a cell phone years ago.

All those whipper snappers buying cellular phones. My corded phone is all I need.
