Morning all,

We've decided to treat ourselves to a few luxuries for our november trip, including the car class.

Has anyone had any experience of which vehicles Alamo use for their Luxury SUV? They state Cadillac Escalade or similar, just wondering if anyone has had the 'or similar'....

Ta!

:goodvibes

I'd find yourself an expert before getting worried but I've never seen an Escalade in the parking bays in Alamo! We had this trouble last time we went just as a couple for an anniversary and I treated myself to a big dodge and got a crappy hyundai!!!

"Or Similar" seems to have wide scope for interpretation by the car companies.

Hmm perhaps I should email Alamo and see what their current stock list consists of for this class!

I was considering taking a premium (i.e. the Dodge Durango 'or similar') but maybe i'll re-think that one as well!!

From memory Alamo at MCO had a Rav4 sized car for small 4x4, Jeep Laredo (which we had last time) for intermediate and the Infiniti 45 which is more or less the same as a Nissan Murano for the premium model but it changes every month.

I think the email to Alamo is a good idea.

Not sure if whether you're a man or woman but you could write a soppy email pretending to be a wife planning a surprise for your husband for anniversary/birthday etc and get a premium car but don't know what to go for, what can they suggest. Might get a free upgrade, they're pretty good when it comes to celebrations.

I'm the devious, car driving husband by the way and have been known to have up to 3 anniversaries a year with more than a few succesful room upgrades! Before we had kids and can't afford holidays any more that is;)

I'm pretty sure that we saw an Escalade in the Alamo garage in January. However, just looking on alamo.com I cannot see that they are showing it as available - well for our dates in Nov anyway.

We've had a Lincoln Navigator from Hertz before and they guarantee the exact car (and if it isn't available you'd get an Escalade), the same for the Escalade. If you've never used Hertz before, you can join their loyalty programme and I think you'll get 10% off the first rental. Also, at that class of car you get better service.

Just a thought if you are thinking of going for something flash.

Hmm good plan - i think i might just do that.

Alamo have yet to respond but yes I have noticed it's not on the reservations list any more for our dates either - maybe they only have one or two of them at any one time given the expense!!

It is not possible to pre book the Escalade, we had to wait for 2 days until we could get one for our trip last month.
The other car is a Cheverlot Suburban, more boot room, but not as nice to drive, we where given this car while we waited.
I would also recommend getting the gold package, as last year someone drove in to us, and this year my mum drove in to someone!!!!! All we had to do was call Alamo and tell them, well worth the extra money.

So are you saying that you booked the Premium SUV class, were allocated the Chevrolet Surburban on arrival, asked about the Escalade, then they let you know as soon as one became available? How much did it cost to upgrade to the Escalade?

I'm quite keen to have an Escalade in November, but I don't want to pay the prices most places seem to want for them! We had a Lincoln Navigator last August for a ridiculously cheap price (just over £400 for two weeks). The cheapest price we can find now (for either an Escalade or a Navigator) is about £950 for the two weeks.

We had the car for 5 weeks and with a young driver added on it was just under $6,000.
We call Alamo and told them we wanted the Esclade and where told that it could not be pre booked ( we picked our car op at WDW car care) and that we had to order the lux car range, the up grade on site. The Escalade was $15 per day more than the Surburban.
