Hi, I have an ALAMO res. for July 19-31. We are now leaving Orlando on the 30th at 6pm. But when I try to MODIFY my res. it ends up costing me MORE by over $30. to turn the car in the day before my res. ends! Has anyone turned a car in EARLY and just paid the total due?? Thanks, Joan
I remember reading in the contract that you will be charged a certain amount per day to return your vehicle early. I don't have it in front of me, so I can't say for sure.
Well, I'm not sure that you'd end up spending more money as a result:
Early Return Policy
An Early Return fee is charged at a rate of $15 per rental when a vehicle is returned at least one calendar day early and total daily/weekly charges is less than the initial charged amount.
However, I think the question is, if you return the car early, whether or not Alamo would recompute your total based on a daily charge instead of the (potentially lower) weekly charge. I avoid Alamo like the plague because they do things like that, but I don't know specifically if that is one of their flaky, anti-customer policies or not.
The rental car companies have the contracts worded such that if you do NOT keep the car for the amount of time specified in your agreement they can and WILL change you to a daily rate. (While I despise Alamo, they aren't alone in this)
I don't recommend this as a money saving method....
No matter what you will always end up paying more for less time, Unfourtunately i dont think that you have an option in this case. Try shopping around and see who comes out the cheapest with what you actually need.
Have you tried booking a whole new reservation and if so, is the cost the same? You might try that and if the total is better just cancel the original reservation. Sometimes it works out better.
Your being quoted a higher rate if you modify your reservation is due to either or both of:
1. Rates overall have changed,
2. The length of your new reservation is normally figured using daily rather than weekly rates.
