Alamo skip the Counter

Thanks!

With the rate I got for our end of September trip, I couldn't hardly pass it up. I'm just used to National and being able to bypass the counter, and wanted to make sure I did everything right in order to do this.

We also like Alamo. Even if it is a little more it's worth being able to pick out your own car in aisle. Have found Costco to have the best rates but that can change day to day and week to week. Costco make it easy enough to book and cancel and re book if anything changes.

Can I skip the counter with my Costco reservation??

yes, I've done it several times. You use the Alamo confirmation number listed in your Costco reservation, on Alamo's website and check in with your reservation number and name. Then you can do all the fill in, then print the paperwork for skipping the counter. I go back and forth with direct with Alamo and with Costco Travel. Sometimes direct Alamo is cheaper, using the Costco ID and coupon, sometimes Costco Travel is cheaper. I do like using Alamo, and since Costco's Travel includes a free second driver, I like having the Costco reservation more.

Sorry to hijack...I have a Sunwing package which includes an Alamo rental. I've done the online checkin, but the instructions are still to take my docs to the counter. I'm sure that I don't have a choice but head Defoe the counter, but wondered if anyone had any luck with the skip the counter option on a prepaid ressie?

What is are the Costco numbers for searching on the alamo site? The only one I have is the contract ID of 7014627. Is there a coupon code that can be added as well? Right now for our trip in june I have a reservation thru costco at $300. If I go to alamo direct and put in the costco contract ID its about $315. The numbers have been stable since I made the reservation, but any change to get another legit coupon code is worth it. Dont want to risk the vegas brail codes :)

you can also add a coupon with the Costco ID on Alamo's site. I do that all the time to compare with Costco Travel. You can use the one Gina has at the first page for $25 if using a Visa, but for some reason, I can't get Orlando's location to say it's valid for either of my rentals. I used AU2291VYT for a free upgrade. That saved me actually around $26 on my October rental. And yeah, I don't risk the vegas code either. I'm not a member. Oh, and the other thing, if you do rent using Costco code, when saying confirm, it asks you for your Costco number. I always fill it in, and take the card with me, but so far, have never been asked to produce it or I don't know if they even check. However, since I do have a Costco card, that' why I feel comfortable using that code. Right now I'm $306 with Costco Travel, for 11 days, midsize. I was hoping to be in the lower $200 range, but I will keep going back and back. I've already changed 3 times so far, started at $354.

I have a reservation through Costco with Alamo. For the free extra driver, would that count for my 21 year old son, or would have to pay extra as he's under 25?

from the Alamo website:

Wow....ok, totally not worth it! Looks like I am DD for 2 weeks. I'm travelling with my 21 year old twins. Thought it would be nice to split up the driving....but not nice enough to pay that!!

If you have an additional driver on your reservation can you skip the counter? I had a reservation with both my husband and I and I went through the whole skip the counter form and I received a confirmation that it worked. I later had to call to modify something and they stated you cannot skip the counter when you have an additional driver. Anyone have any experience with this?

Definitely not true.

We have rented from Alamo at least a dozen times in the last few years and always do the online check-in, add my wife as the second driver, print the paperwork and go straight to the garage when we arrive in Florida.

Online check-in is my favorite feature of an Alamo rental, I'll pay more just to have this option with Alamo.

FYI: it's usually best to use the online check-in when you are close to departure date (in case you have any changes or rate drops and you want to cancel and re-book).

Personally, the day before our flight, I check one last time to see if rates have dropped any further. Re-book if they have and then use the online check-in and print the paperwork.

When you arrive at MCO collect your luggage and head out to the parking garage.
Follow the Alamo signs and head to the aisle/size that you have booked.
Load up (keys are in the vehicle),
Drive to the exit gate,
Hand the attendant your check-in paperwork, drivers licence(s) and credit card you used when you checked in.
The attendant will verify all the info, scan the vehicle out and hand you a receipt.
The gate will open and you are on your way.
Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks so much!

We've always rented with Alamo - love the bypass the counter benefit

Does anyone know if MCO still only uses Fullsize vehicles in lieu of both Standard & Fullsize ?
Renting a Standard size is usually about $25 less and when getting to Orlando you just got a Full size car anyway?

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case?? Haven't flown into MCO in about 3 years

You are correct, there is no Standard aisle at MCO. Standard and Full Size are combined onto the Full Size aisle.
I think Alamo has figured this out in their pricing now though.
Most of the time Standard and FS are now the same price when you make a reservation. Sometimes Standard is a little cheaper but it's only a few dollars nowadays.
FYI: For our current September rental, the FS was actually $4 cheaper than Standard...go figure!

You can check your reservation online, and it should give you an option to put your payment information in to skip the counter.

How far in advance can I complete online check in? The credit card is charged at the end of the rental as always?

Just wondering. What would happen if for some reason we didn't get to MCO as planned for the reservation.

I did mine when I rented. It is not a pre-pay, so you are not charged until you return the car.

Ok, I may be overthinking this - but how do you know the proper aisle? Are the aisles clearly marked with the class?

Yes they are.

In addition, there is an Alamo attendant in the parking garage to direct you to the proper aisle.
It's a very well organized process both when picking up and dropping off the vehicle
Best airport we've been through
