We are renting a car from Alamo and driving down. Does anyone know if Alamo at Louisville airport(SDF) you can pick your own car? We did our budget hoping to get at least 30mpg. I am an Alamo insider and I am thinking about doing the double upgrade which would give us the compact price for a standard. I am hoping we don't end up with a compact. Since we are driving a fair distance I would like mid-size or larger. Does anyone know if SDF has mid-size or standard cars? I know the one at MCO doesn't have every type. What cars are considered mid-size vs standard? Also my BF father is wanting to pay for the car with his credit card, does he need to be present at pick-up or could my BF use his card? He just had heart surgery and isn't able to get around very easy.

Another thing to add I tried using the number Sams Club gave me and it is not working putting it under ID. Any ideas? Just finding the cheapest options.

The person making the reservation has to have the credit card in their name. Your BF cannot use his father's card and unless the reservation is in your BF's father's name. MCO does have every type they just don't have a separate area for Standard cars. The web site tells you what type of car you can expect to get. It will say: Impala or similar for full size, etc. As to gas mileage about the only thing that gets that type of mileage is a compact. Look up the mileage ratings for the various cars described on the web site.

You should be able to get 30mpg with about any car in classes up to full size, this of course would only be highway driving. So while driving down from Louisville, you should be able to get that kind of mileage on 75. When driving around the Orlando area, expect more in the 20-23mpg range.

If you use the double upgrade coupon, you select the car class you are upgrading from. Your confirmation will then show the car class that you upgraded to and you will get that class of car unless they don't have any left.

The only way that your BFs father can pay on his credit card is to be there when you return the car. As gmeh1 indicated, the name of the renter must match the name on the credit card used to checkin. But on return, anyone can pay in any manner, even cash.

Dioxide, I am going to check on that credit card thing. I don't believe that the renter can use a credit card that does not match the reservation. Primarily because the person owning that credit card can dispute the fact that the renter had his/her premission in as much as the names don't match. I will do that today and get back to you.

The only way the BF's father can pay with his credit card at anytime is if he is the main driver. He can add the BF to the contract as additional driver. Of course, he has to be there to be the main driver. The BF's father can pay cash (and cash only) at the end of the rental.

So the OP could make a reservation in the fathers name and have them added as an additional driver. The father just has to be there when they pick up the car. Are there any issue if the father is not available if there are problems with the car or when it is dropped off.

None that I know of. Of course, if there is damage the father would be responsible and would be responsible for any incidentals ie: not having the gas filled.
