I booked a Mid-size last week at Alamo for 11 days starting on Oct. 7th. It was $284 which isn't bad -much better than the almost $400 for National (for a midsize on the Emerald Aisle)

Yesterday I was able to book a new reservation at Alamo for.. wait for it...$184/11 days/complete for a Full Size! The rate on the full size was actually less than the mid-size.:confused3 That's only $17/day, complete!

I used Visa codes for the rental (those are the codes that got the lowest price). I found them on a link thru Mousesavers. All you need to do is pay for your rental with a Visa card.

Here's the info for the rate
Save up to 20% and receive $30 off when you rent any size car in the United States, Latin America and Caribbean and pay with your Visa® card. Requires a 5-day minimum rental with a Saturday overnight keep.

To redeem this offer, click the link below to book online or call Alamo at 1-800-462-5266 and request ID 7015504 and Coupon Code AD2338FDF.
This rate is good from 9/1/11 to 2/29/12

Here's the link. There's a direct link to Alamo which will give the discount.

Now my booking starts at 11 p.m. on a Friday night (10/7) and ends around 6 p.m. on a Tuesday (10/18) which is 11 days.

I also checked for some relatives who are coming in on Sat. the 8th. Best I could get them for a Standard was $180. Which they are very happy with-they budgeted $400 for their car.

I booked a rate last week on Alamo and it was a better rate (by over $120) if I picked up at 12:00 a..m on 10/8 (Sat.) vs. 11:30 p.m. on Friday. Now it looks like the rate is better picking up on Friday night. It just shows that you really need to keep checking to see if your Alamo rates have fallen. They can fall for just a few hours and then head back up. There was one year when I rebooked twice in the 24 hours before our trip. It just kept fallling. ;)

Oh, and I have a ressie with National that I will be canceling. Almost $400 for a Mid-Size! I can pick any car on the Emerald Aisle but for that rate I can get 2 at Alamo. :confused3 I keep hoping National will fall but I don't think it will by that much. At least we still get to pick out our own car at Alamo and use the kiosk. And since we are getting in so late, there's a chance there won't be a Full Size vehicle we like. That happened about 3 years ago-there were about 3-4 families looking for a regular size car (I forget the exact descpription) and there was only one on the row. The attendant said we could take any car we wanted from the Emerald Aisle (even though we were with Alamo-I know, sister companies). Maybe we'll get that lucky this year.:wizard:

Hope this helps someone.

The rates for Feb. will probably be high right now (I checked, they are) but as you get closer to your trip they will come down. Great thing about Alamo is you can reserve without a credit card. So once the rate looks okay to you go ahead and book it. Then when it falls, book it again and cancel the first one.

I just checked and my rate has now gone up to $244. So the great deal for my period is gone but I expect they will fall again.;)

Something's going on with Alamo during my dates. Pick up at MCO is 10/7/11 at 11pm, drop off is 10/11/11 at 4pm. The cheapest car available using the VISA discount code/coupon ($15off) is a premium for $156, followed by an SUV! Midsize cars are in the mid-$200's before the coupon. I am currently holding a midsize ressie for $109 (incl taxes and fees) and $125 for a full size. I'll keep checking every day- after all, cheaper is better- but I can live with these rates.

Hey! Its been awhile. How are you? We are gonna be in WDW at the same time! I just saw your car rental thread about Alamo rates and recognized your screen name. I'm so glad they are dropping! We have a standard size for 9 days, oct 15-24, for $204. Can't wait for it to drop even more! :goodvibes

Nope ! there won't be any extra charges ! the total for my 8 day trip in May was $80, i'm hoping for the same luck in November.

By the way, if you use the kiosk you can avoid the counter all together

Like PP said, no other fees when you get to the counter. Yes, they may try to sell you insurance and remind you that Florida is a "no fault" state so even if you aren't at fault you will have to pay if you are in an accident. But I have verified with my insurance company that I am covered. If you are worried about your insurance, check with your carrier. I usually try to remember to bring my proof of insurance with me in case anything happens. Though nothing has yet. (Knocking wood)

Defintely use the kiosk. You won't even have to talk to someone at the counter and it is so fast. You won't have to wait in line either. One great thing about Alamo is after you get your paperwork you just go outside, follow the signs to the Alamo section of the rental pick up areas and pick ANY car in your particular car class. We like to check for ones that don't smell:scared1:, have some nice extras, and have low mileage. Going in Sep. we have almost always gotten a new car.:cloud9:

Also, don't select the pre-pay for gas option. It's way too expensive. We have found that as long as we completely fill the tank at the Hess station on property and drive direct to MCO (okay, with a stop at DTD) we have always been good on the full tank.

Hey back! Saw your post on my PTR too. Thanks for reading. Hope your rates drop too! I haven't checked yet today so I'm hoping mine have fallen as well!

Thanks for all the other comments. Those are some great rates. And yes, make sure you use the $30 off code.
