Alamo Questionable Code 701111 Update/Information

I tried to apply this code and was given the message

"The entered Corporate ID, Association ID, or Contract ID is invalid"

When I attempted to utilize it again I was given this message

"Alamo is currently sold out at location you requested, click below to check availability at our related websites"

Now Alamo is not sold out as I always check the price without any code applied first.......

Something is up with this code.

I tried this code at both the Airport and the Sheraton locations and got the "sold out" message as well. The locations were not sold out because I had just checked them with a different code.

There are sometimes limits on the number of reservations under a given code, so it is possible that the code is "sold out" even if there are cars available at other rates.

I think we are going to see the car rental companies being more stringent about what codes they accept and what ones they won't. If you are not entitled to a particular code, then I wouldn't suggest trying to use it. It would seem that the websites are being more careful about allowing you to enter a code without subsequent contract ID numbers or such.
The car rental companies are loosing money....so they are increasing prices. Then, they get customers who want to use codes that are for someone else...so, they deny that customer the use of that particular code.

It is largely due to internet boards, like the DIS, that give so many different codes. Some are good, some aren't. I would check out sites that offer codes that are good for everyone, and they have checked it out before putting it out on the board.
There is no way that I am going to try and use a code that someone here posted....saying that they had no trouble using it, so go ahead and use it yourself. I doubt that person is going to send me a reimubursement if I end up having to pay double the rate I was quoted but used a bogus code. Nope, I'll stick to the lesser codes, paying a bit more but knowing what I will actually end up paying.

I think DIS policy should be discussions should only be allowed on generally accepted codes. Questionable codes with no origination back-up or support to ensure that a general user can use them should be prohibited.

That doesn't seem very workable. It would sure keep a whole team of mods busy! And would be way too much pixir dust for this board.

If you use a code that is "iffy," you need to be prepared for the consequences. There is ussually at least one poster per thread that reminds folks of the potential problem(s).

(And remember: be prepared for the code to not be honored, and make sure you have separate, primary insurance coverage that includes loss of use.)

If they can ban discussion of a political nature, they can do this...turning a blind eye doesn't work IMO.

Years ago DIS banned posting of non-public PIN codes for resort discounts. This was before the PIN codes was guest specific but there was a question if Disney would check eligibility at check in.

This would be no different.

Alamo should be printing the name of the promotion on the confirmation. Let the reservation show AAA discount instead of a code.

I tried that code the other day too and got the same message for my trip to California in August.

There is another code that is similiar to the 7011111 code that I used to book a ressie. When I booked, it included insurance and my rate was greatly reduced.

I tried the code again to see if rates came down further and that code still works, but now insurance is not included in the quotes it's giving.

I've got a feeling that Alamo has caught up to "the codes". In addition to the DIS, there's been lots of discussion about them at Fatwallet.com.

I'm gonna keep my Alamo ressie as a backup, but I've actually found rates cheaper through Dollar than what I got from Alamo with "the code".

I've been checking carrentals.com everyday/twice a day for weeks and have whittled my 8 day car rental (mid August) down to $214.00 after tax. I also noticed that it was cheaper for me to rent the car for 8 days then to rent it for 7.

Honestly, I'd rather not post it while it's still working. But if you google questionable alamo code at the Fatwallet forums, I'm sure you'll find it.

It was a code for south american travel agents, I believe.

And once again....if you are not entitled to use a particular code, you should be prepared to pay full price when you are renting your car. Unless you can prove you're a South American travel agent, you probably shouldn't be using that code. But thank-you for not posting it here.

You know guys..it may be time to limit the types of codes we post here. If someone really wants to find some dubious code then they can go check out fatwallet. But let's keep the codes we discuss limited to codes that everyone is legitimately entitled to use....not ones that you 'hope' you can get away with. Thanks.

Ethically I have no problem using a suspect code, it's getting there and having it rejected and having to pay the walk-up rate that worries me. It is the financial risk that makes me nervous.

Not to be a broken record, but you should also be concerned about insurance coverages. Employer/group-specific codes often have insurance included. But, you should assume that if you have to file a claim, it will be denied if you are not legitimately an employee/member of the group.

Be absolutely 100% certain that you have primary coverage that includes loss-of-use for a rental car. You are otherwise responsible not only for the damages to the vehicle, but also the rental revenue that the company loses while it is being repaired.

If a code is for everyone, great, but some codes are inapporpriate for some and not others....For example the Costco codes are for Costco members and there is no discussion about who can and can't use those codes. Nobody cares! Why is there so much debate about some codes? Alamo has said this alleged questionable code 7011111 is allowed to be used and it has been used with success for many Disers. I agree. But when we see person A saying they used the xyz code, with no problem at all, then person B comes along and says they called the rental company about using xyz code and was told it was only for south american travel agents (as an example), and then person A comes back with a 'well, people need to stop calling the rental companies. They will shut down those codes. You will spoil it for everyone if you call attention to a special code.' Those are the posts that aren't going to be allowed. If a code usage isn't for the general public then it doesn't need to be discussed. A lot of people can use a Costco or BJs code...not too many can use a travel agents code.
