Alamo problem

Called today and they still have no clue about the error on their website. It's frustrating because I can't do online check-in to completely bypass the counter and kiosks. I'm leaving this weekend and I doubt this issue will be fixed. I was told I can't do online check-in because I used a "paper coupon" which needs to be presented when I pick up the car. I said regardless of coupon, can you check in for me if I provided the info, he said no.

What is a "paper coupon"? Is it from the "Entertainment" booklet (is that what it's called)?

A paper coupon is an actual physical printed (usually paper) coupon, like the ones you tear out of your Entertainment Book or your newspaper or magazine (Like a BOGOF Whopper coupon from Burger King - present when ordering).

As compared to an electronic coupon code which is usually a code that is supplied by email or on a retailers website. (like a free shipping code on an etailers website - enter when ordering, no physical (paper) coupon required)

That is incorrect. You must check in either counter/kiosk/online or otherwise you will do the reverse back up in shame.

Geez, I get it people. Must I be corrected 3x? :scared: It's never been difficult to do online or even at the kiosk so I guess I forgot.

...but it is good to know that with my Alamo Insiders that I can go directly to the garage.
As mentioned, you DO need to check-in online if you want to go directly to the garage.

They said it was due I coupon code, but the coupon code was an alamo 20% off code. So I am not certain what they are referring to.

That's the same BS answer I got when I called. Just to disprove the rep, I made another reservation without any coupons and I still was not able to do online check-in. The rep then said their system must be down and he could not do anything about it.

Since I couldn't get in contact with anyone competent at Alamo, I sent them a message on FB. Finally someone recognized that something is wrong with their website and all they could do is provide me with this link: https://v1.alamo.com/index.do?action=/hotDealsTemplate&msg=alamo-intlSaveTime. SaveTime is not the same as online check-in, but at least I was able to save all my info and add my additional driver, enabling me to bypass the counter and use the kiosk instead.

Just for reference. I'm able to do Online Check-in, and then a Bypass ticket quite fine. My reservation was not made on Alamo.com

Maybe the problem is regional specific.

Having the same issue:
"We're sorry for the inconvenience, but we are experiencing technical issues with this reservation attempt. Please call 1 (877) 222-9075."

I've called, emailed, posted on their FB page, called and cancelled one reservation, made another, still the same issue. I was really hoping to bypass the counter...seeing as a lot of you are having the same issue, I wonder if I should book with another company...:confused3

You say your reservation was "NOT" made on Alamo.com? Is that correct? Where did you make your reservation (if you don't mind the asking)?

I messaged them on FB as well, and this is the response I received "Our Web Development Team is working to resolve any issues our customers are experiencing with the web site. We hope to resolve these issues as soon as possible."

Butget has a FastBreak option that allows you to bypass the "regular" counter. I believe at MCO, you go directly to the FastBreak desk/counter/kiosk in the garage to pick up your keys, but it's not 24/7. Also, National has a bypass counter option if you are an Emerald Club member.

For anyone having this problem, my response today from Alamo:

"To qualify for our online check service your reservation must be booked at a location offering the service, cannot include any additional equipment such as car seats or GPS units or coupons, must be booked more than 24 hours in advance of scheduled rental start time, and be paid using a credit card. Rentals paid for through a third-party, using billing number or with a debit card are ineligible for online check-in.

My records indicate that you are using an Alamo Insiders coupon for a free upgrade and that your reservation is not a prepaid reservation."

So I've re-booked with a prepaid reservation without signing into the Alamo Insiders and I have a cheaper rate and can now bypass the counter. Wasted most of the day on this, but I hope this helps someone else!

You say your reservation was "NOT" made on Alamo.com? Is that correct? Where did you make your reservation (if you don't mind the asking)?

That is correct. I made my reservation on a site specialized for Caribbean natives only. I'm not sure if I should link it. As they DO check your license to make sure your not American/Canadian.

I checked in online and printed my bypass ticket this morning. All fine.

That's why I said the issue with Alamo might be only for a certain area/s :scratchin

Both of my third party reservations, I did Online check in and Bypass ticket.

The others made directly on Alamo had a coupon applied and I also checked in online.

So, IMHO, the agent is simply wrong or confused.

Interesting. I made a reservation using coupons back in July and was able to check-in. I ended up canceling that one and made the same exact reservation later on (using the same coupons) because it was ~$30 cheaper, and now I am unable to check-in. I will try your method later today. Their new website bites!

But we are not just referring to online check-in. We cannot even SEE our reservations when we click on "view/modify/cancel" or "Find a Reservation".

We should be able to "view/modify/cancel" a reservation when we have made it on the Alamo website!

Use this link to view/modify/cancel: https://v1.alamo.com/. It's a link to the old version of their site (provided to me by an Alamo rep on FB). I have booked variations of reservations on alamo.com and used v1.alamo to cancel them.

I am finally able to do online check-in if I do not use coupon code AF4469SDU or AF5365ODH. My rate goes up at about 10 bucks but I don't mind as long as I am able to bypass the counter.

OMG, this works -- I can finally view/cancel a reservation! Thank you so much.

But why would you not be able to use one of those codes? The site says "No printouts required"?

Wow - thanks so much. I was finally able to cancel a booking I had wanted to modify initially but had to do a new reservation because of this glitch.

I see now that in order to qualify for on-line check in you cannot use any coupons, including e-coupons.

But you can still use the Kiosk, correct?

I'm not quite sure what is going on with the coupons. I've tried and tested so many combinations, with and without coupons, contract IDs, by signing in and out of Alamo insiders, and the only time I don't get the error is if I don't use a coupon code (contract ID is ok)...but just a few weeks ago it was working correctly, on an identical (but more expensive) reservation, WITH coupons applied

Yes. I have done it multiple times. It only takes a few extra minutes.
