Alamo online check in with debit card?

I see on Alamos website that debit cards are not allowed for online check in:

"•Alamo does not accept debit cards at time of rental. Although a debit card may be accepted online, you will not be able to process your transaction at time of rental"


I did a search here on the Dis and see that some people say that they have done it in the past without a problem?


Does anyone have any experiene with this?

Renting a car with a debit card is a whole different ball game from renting with a cc card. I don't know how you can get away without checking with a rental agent, as you usually must show your return airline ticket.

Yeah, im not sure? I saw someone on here said that they had done it but just had to show proof of a round trip plane ticket at the booth in the garage?

It is usually not advisable to use a debit card for a car rental. There are so many protections offered by many credit card companies when renting a car. Many rental agencies have restrictions for their use. With Alamo you must show proof of a return ticket in order to rent with a debit card. This is probably the reason you can't us it for online checkin.

We were not able to use a debit card. As it says, the online reservation looked fine and said to go right to the aisle, but they could not get the card to go through at the booth where you pay. I had to go back and go inside to use the debit card. I don't know if there is any difference based on the type of debit card used.

Not sure about the online checkin with a debit card, but, you can use it at the kiosk. You will be asked to show proof of round trip travel at the exit booth. Be sure to have it, or you will not be able to leave the garage. The bottom of the print out from the kiosk will tell you what you will need to show the exit agent. Please, for a quicker transaction, have those items readily available.
