Alamo - No On-line check-in for ANY SUV's

Was having trouble with on-line check in from Alamo. Standard SUV & yes, I used an online coupon but that is allowed since you are not required to turn in a the actual coupon. Same exact situation as I had in September.

When I called their customer service I was told that ALL suv's were now ineligible for on-line check-in not just the mid-size! :furious:

What a PITA !

Thanks for the info. I'll be using Alamo for the first time next Thursday and am planning on trying the online check in. I've reserved a minivan, can I do the online checkin with a minivan? I checked their website and couldn't find any information regarding what levels I can do this with. When do I do the online checkin? 24 hours? 12 hours? Tks.
 
Try your online checkin now. You don't have to fill out any of the information, you will just be able to know if you can or cannot utilize it.
 
I'm on the phone with Alamo right now and the rep read me the list of vehicles eligible for on-line check in. In includes standard size SUV. Plus, my standard size SUV reservation still has the 'check in now' option at the bottom of the page (whereas my mid-size SUV reservation never had that option).

I had such a horrible wait (over an hour) the last time I rented from Alamo at MCO that I will do anything possible to avoid starting my next vacation that way again!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm really hoping you just got some bad info.

we used online check in for a minivan in November

I think you have to check in more than 24 hours in advance. Hopefully someone here can confirm it.

We originally went with Alamo with their price for a mid-size suv but was "dreading" standing in line. I recently was able to get the same price for mid-size suv with National and as long as you are an Emerald Club member you can by-pass the line (at least with my reservation I was). Same type of class of car (mid-size SUV), etc. I switched from Alamo to National a few days ago.

May want to think about going with National as they have the same type of car classes but if you are an Emerald Club member you can usually by-pass the lines. Additionally, mousesavers has a code in which you can sign up for free to be an Emerald Club member (typically 50.00 to sign up for that). :banana:
 
This is what their online information says:

Not available for Midsize SUV and other specialty class vehicles

(so what is a specialty class vehicle?)
 
I just made a reservation for a Standard SUV about an hour ago, and there was a check-in online button on it. :confused3
 
Reading this post had me worried. Therefore, I decided to try to check-in for my August reservation with a Standard SUV. I was able to do so without any problem - I have the confirmation e-mail in my hand.

I would love to do the same but I am wondering....now that you are checked in, suppose you need to cancel? When you checked in did it tell you about any fees if you need to cancel? I did try to talk to someone at Alamo about this but honestly, I might as well have talked to myself. Not much help.

Has anyone out there done on line check in for an SUV yet and walked to a car in the garage?

We used the online check in for our SUV in December. We had booked a Trailblazer (not sure what class that is). Anyway, when we arrived at MCO, we walked straight to the cars, picked one out and drove to the attendent. They took the tag out of the car, looked at the copy of our rental agreement and we were on our way. Very easy!!

Not real sure about the cancellation policy.

I just got a reply email from them (again -- another different story), but they say that any coupon (paper or e-coupon) on your ressie will mean that you cannot check in on-line. So, perhaps that the new twist?

No cancellation fees - they only apply when you use the prepay option. Plus, I doubt that I would cancel ($348 for a standard SUV for 13 days is the best rate I have ever gotten on a car at WDW).

I guess this is true, because I just tried to use the online check in for my minivan rental and it won't let me because I'm using an e-coupon. I will sign up for quick silver and hopefully that will cut down on my wait time??? Never done this before, as I'm a diehard Executive Aisle National customer, but considering I'm getting a minivan/uplander for $115 a week, total for 8 days including taxes and fees $153, that made my decision easier. I did use the prepaid method too.

Hubby does own his own business, don't have a clue about the other part. I logged in after registering his company and submitted his application with no problem. The only bad thing is is that we leave tomorrow and his QS ID number won't be here for several days according to the confirmation letter.

UPDATE: got our QS ID number less than 12 hours after applying. Can't add it to my existing ressie since we leave in a couple of hours (I tried), so may try to use it at the counter when we get to MCO.

If you look on the mousesavers site, it tells you how you can register for QS. I did it a few days ago. I do own a business, but you can register as a small business even if you don't.

I just checked my rate for April 23-May 5 for 13 days for a standard SUV and using prepay, my total is $303. Pretty cheap. Ony $228 total for a mid-size SUV. Just can't decide which one, but probably the cheaper one since it's only the 2 of us. (This is using the prepay method and a $15 coupon)
 
Here's what I read from the "check in online screen"
To qualify for Online Check-Insm, you must:

* Meet minimum rental age requirements.
* Have a clean driving record.
* Have a valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license.
* Provide a valid major credit card.


* Alamo does not accept debit cards at time of rental. Although a debit card may be accepted online, you will not be able to process your transaction at time of rental.
* Not available for Midsize SUV and other specialty class vehicles.
* The following credit cards may be used to complete your Online Check-Insm transaction:
U.S. issued credit cards: Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover
Canada issued credit cards: American Express, Mastercard, VISA

Online Check-Insm is not available with reservations that contain the following:

* Reservation is over 30 days.
* Reservation is "On Request".
* Additional equipment such as child seat/toddler seat/infant seat or ski racks, etc. Rentals requiring additional
equipment must go to the rental counter.
* Coupon used with reservation.
* Voucher used with reservation.
* Applicant Business Account Number used with reservation.
* Central Bill Number used with reservation.
