Hi All,

I booked code 7011111 a few months ago and will be traveling soon. I came on the board to check for cheaper rates/codes and saw some discussion about improper use of codes.

Without a debate, I am inquiring where this code is from? Does anyone know? I remember finding it, applying it and forgetting about it.

Is this a valid code?

Thanks.....:goodvibes

If you cut and paste your code and Alamo into google, you'll have plenty of possible "answers". ;)

I made a reservation using that same code. At the two week mark I was able to get a compact (same as I booked through Alamo) through priceline from Avis for only $10 more for the week. You might want to give that a try if you're traveling soon.

The other thread was not just about the improper use of codes. That thread tried to get answered the very question that you just asked. There was no definitive answer provided there and I doubt you will get one in this new thread.

This is probably a dumb question, but if there isn't a way to find out what a code is for, how do you know if you are eligible to use it? I saw the other thread but I don't have forever to read through it all so I hope this isn't a question that caused debate or issue. I'm just genuninely curious.

TIA!

Your question is sort of the answer. The people who qualify know the origin. Say you are hired as an employee of "X" company. "X" company gives you a code to use for rental cars. This code is to be only used by people of "X" company. Somehow, the code starts floating around the internet. Nobody knows where it came from, but you do......because you an employee of "X" company. Simply put, the ones who qualify will never have confusion or have to go investigate.

Generally speaking, you will 'know' if you are entitled to use a particular code. If it's a corporate code, your company will have that code listed as a 'perk'. If your TA is entitled to hand it out to their clients, then you will know about it.
If it is a South American travelers code, you will most likely know about it if you are South American.
The old saying that 'if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is' works here.
Most people know exactly what they are entitled to. Those who complain about others calling rental companies and asking, thereby calling unwanted attention to a particular code, are most likely using it improperly.
I wish all companies would require ID for any special codes..it would do away with this stupid debate.

Thanks. That is what I was trying to say. :thumbsup2

It may not be a perk but you may be required to use that code when traveling for business for your company. Some companies have policies where you can't use their corporate codes for personal travel, others don't care.

True...and those people should, I would think, know what the parameters were for the use of that code.

And if not, those employees would have a dept within their company or the business you are trying to utilize, who could answer their questions regarding such a matter.
