I had to rent a car seat with our rental car through Alamo, will I have to go through the line and speak with an agent and they give me the cars seat, or will I be able to use the kiosk?

You can use the kiosk. You will pick up the car seat in the garage. Just ask the greeter where they are.

It was a add on option in the Alamo website, it is $9.99 a day or $60 max, so for my 7 days, they charged me $60. I'm not sure what you would do if you booked through Disney, I would probably call them and I'm sure they can help you.

You can add them on at the CCC, no worries. They always have plenty of them. It is 9.99 a day per car seat with a max. of 60.00 each. Plus tax and fees. Just let the agent know when you pick up the car that you need them. We cannot install them, just a FYI

Nope, the max. per rental is 60.00 each, so 60.00x2=120.00 plus tax and fees.

How are the car seats? I just reserved an SUV from Alamo for our trip and reserved 2 cars seats, an infant one and a toddler one. Are they safe? Clean? I really don't want to have to lug car seats on the airplane. Juggling two kids and two huge suitcases will be hard enough. :yay:

From my experience and renting car seats, they are very clean and very safe. Just make sue you install them correctly.

I was actually going to say the opposite. I rented once because I forgot my DS's car seat in the car at the airport parking lot and didn't have time to get it. The one we rented was filthy and smelled. The majority were filthy. I watched as people picked through them and were actually tossing them on the ground if they didn't want it. Now, I just carry his seat through the airport. We have a great lighweight one for travel and he uses it on the plane as well.

The danger with used car seats is that you don't know their history... if they've been in a crash or if they've had their straps cleaned improperly, if they are expired or recalled, etc.

If it's at all possible, I would send one adult with the car to Wal-Mart to get new seats. You can get them there for $40-50 a piece, or even less for booster-aged kids, so it will save you money in addition to knowing that your kids are riding safely!

The car seats at Alamo, National and Enterprise are all throughly cleaned and inspected before they are bagged and delivered to the rental areas. I have yet to see a renter toss one aside.

If our seats are involved in a crash we throw them away. We carry the latest car seats and the entire seat is cleaned throughly between uses and bagged. We actually have full time employees who do nothing but clean the seats and deliver them to the garage. We do this because: We value our customers, we believe in safety and we do NOT want any type of liablility.
Using a seat that is unsafe, expired (if there is such a thing) or recalled, would put our company in a serious liablilty situation should, God forbid, something were to happen. Liability issues are the reasons a greeter cannot assist you in selecting or installing the seats.

This is Alamo and was a few years ago. Sounds like they have improved their processes.

A few years ago, Alamo/National was not owned by Enterprise Holdings. I used to rent from Alamo and National back when it was owned by the two prior owners and things have definitely changed since that time and I think for the better. Of course, I could be a bit biased. :)

airlines do not count car seats as luggage. no cost. not sure why you would not carry your own along? you know it is safe, you know how to put in and take out. if carrying it is an issue pay the sky cap to haul your stuff for $5-10 tip each way and still comes out a ton cheaper than renting one....

I wonder the same thing. Look, I know it's a PIA to haul the stroller, car seat etc onto the plane. But, at the end my child is safer. Have to admit, never thought of paying the sky cap to help. Man...wish I thought of that when I had the multiple car seats and strollers.

There most certainly is such a thing as an expired car seat. They have expiration dates stamped on them. Times change, safety standards increase, and that foam inside doesn't cushion your child as well once it's old and compressed. You can't tell by looking at it.

This is what I would do, personally ... I would go to Walmart and buy seats. Two brand new Cosco Sceneras would be about $80 ($40 each) plus tax. They are easy to install after a quick read of the manual, and accommodate rear-facing infants as well as forward-facing kids up to 40 pounds. Booster seats are even cheaper if that's what you need, in the $20 range.

When I was done, I'd drop them off at a Goodwill or other thrift store ... there must be some of those near WDW. While you shouldn't buy used seats due to not knowing their history, some people do, and someone buying my very-lightly-used seat would actually be getting a good one. Plus it saved me a little money anyway. Yes it would take a bit longer going to Walmart to get them and all, but $40 cheaper plus helping out a stranger down the line.

If you do absolutely need to rent one, inspect them all carefully before choosing. Check all over the plastic body for cracks. Lift the cover a little and check the foam for cracks or missing chunks. Find the expiration date, which will be stamped on the plastic body, usually on the underside or the back. It will probably be molded into the plastic (so not a contrasting color or anything, look very closely!) and say something like "Do Not Use After DEC 2012". If there are any cracks or dents in the body or foam, or it's expired, don't use it. And I would point those issues out to the people working there.
