Isn't $405 for a week for a compact (toyota corolla type) With costco coupons kind of expensive or is that the going rate that time of year?

Very expensive. Of the Orlando airport companies, I have found Dollar usually has the best rates. However, the rates jump all over the place. So, the key is to book the cheapest thing you can found now and periodically check back between now and August. At some point, you will get offered a ridiculously low rate, like 100-150 for a compact for a week. Simply cancel you original and rebook. It tkes a couple clicks online. Also, register for the free loyalty program of the company you choose. Skipping the rental counter and heading basically straight for your car is a huge time saver. Last thing, travel sites like expedia or orbitz are good for getting a general idea on rates, but the car company sites usually have "unadvertised" rates that are lower.

I agree with the second post. Go to the alamo.com website and enroll in their free Alamo Insiders loyalty program. I usually wait until two weeks before a trip to reserve my rental car. By the way, Toyota Corolla has grown so big, that they are now considered an intermediate or midsize car. The smaller Toyota Yaris is usually considered compact size by rental car companies.

I got a week rental from Dollar starting Aug 25 for a Mini Van. The total cost is just under $300.00. I found some good coupon codes on mousesavers.

And, I have seen that now, August is really high for Orlando! I was looking for about 10 days, and it seems like it's over $350 for a week for a car right now.

I think it's early yet, but agree, try to find the most reasonable rate you can and hold that. Then keep checking!

If it stays high (and I do bite the bullet and book our trip, which is still up in the air), I plan on using some of my American Airlines miles to pay for my car (I have a bundle of them so free is better than over $500!). Hope it doesn't come to that; Orlando is frequently very reasonable for rental cars!

Just keep checking! And I love mousesavers as well! Many of the codes listed there expire before August, so keep checking her site often!
