I have an insiders membership with Alamo and it's been awhile since I picked up a rental car at the Orlando airport. Do you still need to stop at the Kiosk in the airport to complete the reservation info before you head to the garage to pick up a rental car?

You should be able to input all your information through "skip the counter" on the Alamo site, which will allow you to go straight to the garage without having to stop at the counter or kiosk. Go to Alamo's website and pull up your reservation. There should be a link to activate accelerated check in, asking for drivers license info, DOB, address, etc. After you do that, you will see a link to "skip the counter". Skip the counter requires you to input cc info (the one you'll use to pay for the rental). Once that's done, you will get a ticket with a bar code. That ticket (along with your DL and cc) will need to be given to the attendant upon leaving the garage.

That’s a precise description of the process we used to pick up our rental earlier this month (and many times before as well, so no Covid-induced changes).

Thank you. Can the attendant in the garage add a spouse as a free driver? I looked at the skip the line, and it wants to charge for my spouse - however I'm seeing free spouse on the Alamo website.

You're welcome!

Did you click on the link to add an additional driver and it showed a charge? I ask because when I went through the process to skip the counter for our next trip, I clicked to add an additional driver just to see what would happen. It immediately popped up a message asking if the add'l driver was a spouse/partner. When I clicked yes, it gave me a message that spouses & domestic partners drive free (and gave no way of adding any info for an add'l driver). The message also went on to state that you don't need to do anything....that if spouse/partner meets age & DL requirements, they are automatically authorized to drive for free (and they don't need to be added or even present at time of pick up). If it shows that you will be charged, I'd call or email Alamo asking them to verify the procedure. As far as the attendant question, I'm not sure if he/she can add add'l drivers as my DH always does the driving and I've never added myself. HTH :)

Your first time picking up from Alamo, do you have to go to the counter to have them scan your driver license like you have to do with other rental car companies? Or is that something they can do at the garage?

This is ancient history for me, since I started using Alamo many years ago, when I no longer had access to good National Emerald Club rates. I joined the Alamo Insider program at that time, and I never went to the desk to do anything.

They always check my DL and CC as I exit the garage, so I don’t really understand the need to have it verified at the rental desk. If you do the online check in and complete the skip the counter process by also providing your credit card information, you should get a bar code form to bypass the counter. If you don’t get that, you’ll need to go to the counter or a kiosk instead, but you should be able to tell once you’ve completed online check in. You enter you contact and DL information during online check in, and then it will tell you if you can also continue to complete the skip the counter process by providing payment information (and opting out of all the extras that you can add to your rental cost).

One thing I ran into, we were Insiders originally a few years ago. I couldn't find our information, so I thought, I would just re-enroll. When I went to enroll again, I used my name (my husband drives), I believe the Credit card, drivers license and the name on the insiders all have to be the same. It wasn't a big deal, I just used a different email, and enrolled my husband. Now if you're the spouse, maybe it's ok, I just didn't want to take a chance.

The last time we rented from Alamo, the attendant told us spouses don’t need to be registered to drive the car. They automatically included.
