Aladdin ending at some point?

Well here is one DL regular, almost go weekly, that has a minority opinion. This show to me sucked big time. I can't wait for it to leave. The only show I have disliked more by Disney is Toy Story The Musical on the Disney Wonder which ironically was going to replace Aladdin. I was disapointed to hear that Aladdin will be on the new ship (this is fact and not rumor), but hey that will give me more time to do other things on the ship. I always give things a second chance when I don't like something, both times I have seen Aladdin I hated it. So I hope it goes away soon, but I know that is not likely going to happen.

So should we make POTC go away and replace it with something else because it has been around for too long? Or how about SM, or IASW? They have been around for a long time. Should they be replaced?

I think shows are quite a bit different than rides in that regard. When I visit I want to see new shows, parades, fireworks etc. along with my favorate rides. Disney did change the shows at the Fantasyland stage every 1 to 2 years at most for quite some time. These shows were on the same scale as Aladdin and were excellent.

One thing I enjoyed about those shows were the actors came out before the show and wandered around through the crowd for photos and autographs. Tons of fun.

Given the fact that Aladdin always seems to be sold out, I would say the answer is "yes".

Your analogy to the local theater is not appropriate IMO. A better analaogy are Broadway shows which can go on for decades.

At DLR there is NO other show to see of this type. There are 10K-80K people at DLR on any given day with one stage show to see. Sure there will be enough to fill the seats most every show in that case. That doesn't mean a new show wouldn't be even more desirable by those visiting and help to draw more people into the park.

On broadway very few see the same show twice because of show selection and visiting tourists rather than locals. DLR has a HUGE AP base. Unlike WDW, AP'ers are a major supporting factor for DLR. I feel the need to replace old shows is far greater at DLR. Especially since WDW has Nemo, Lion King, Beauty & the Beast, Little Mermaid, Indy and Lights Camera Action stage shows. DLR has Aladdin as its only stage show of this type.

It's possible since the Princesses will be getting moved to a new area, that the stage will get a new show.

RE: the part I took the liberty of bolding

From what I read many AP holders were among those who were quite vocal about not wanting Aladdin to close though.

Of course they may have been more amenable to change had the replacement been something other than Toy Story, but that's not really a given.

Many people get attached to what is familiar and prefer things to stay as they are, at least for the most part. For them change can be very unsettling.

While I think Aladdin is a really good show, I like to see things changed up and reinvented, so I'd be OK with something new. The thing is, recycling one of DCL's shows isn't really very new or inventive. JMO ;)

Yah, but this is Disney. Which means one needs to put Aladdin in context with other Disney shows that may not be stage shows. But are still shows. WOC. Fantasmic. Fireworks. Billy Hill. SoundSational. Maybe DEP's return. Should we change or cancel Fantasmic since it is on year #20? It is packed every night. Like Aladdin is packed.

IMO Aladdin is the best Disney stage show - aside from Tarzan at DLP - my favorite Disney stage show. I am OK with them changing it - but it better something really good and not a crappy replacement like Toy Story was rumored to be.

Even what Disney fans think something should be replaced, complaining and crying about how nobody rides it or likes it, when it's gone they do the same wanting it back.

This hyporcritical process repeats itself over and over in the parks.

Why haven't they just swapped Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin already? The AP-holders who don't go to WDW would appreciate a new show and the tourists who can't make it out to DL would probably like a chance to see Aladdin with its flying carpet (if the carpet ever flies again).

Disneyland had Beauty and the Beast at the Fantasyland stage in the early 90's. It was an excellent show. Far bigger stage production than exists at Disney Studios now. I would love to see it come back.

That said, my favorate stage show was Pocohantas at Disneyland. I'd rank it far better than Aladdin. One of the best musical productions Disney has ever put on. Snow White in the late 90's was very good as well.

Between 1988 and 2000 the Fantasyland stage had seven shows. I loved going and seeing a different show every few years.

Ok, I guess I missed it. What happened at the Aladdin show with the carpet?

There was a malfuntion. The carpet was stuck, the audience had to leave. They had to evacuate the actors. Flying Carpet is no longer part of the show.

Is that all? Wow, the way folks are talking in this thread, I was sure it flipped upside down, and the actors were dangling for dear life when the hydraulic fluid burst into flames as it poured on the helpless guests below.

The carpet flipped but the actors had safety harnesses. A ladder had to be brought in to rescue them, which necessitated evacuating the audience to make room for the ladder.

The rumor I've heard is that they are going to put that show on the new Fantasy ship in March. That is unconfirmed and even if they did there is no reason why they couldn't have the show on the ship and in the park but the speculation was that it might be leaving the park for the ship.

Let me stress that this is pure rumor and speculation and I haven't followed up on it in weeks. I was following pretty close becasue I was going to be on the Fantasy in June of 2012 but I've moved that trip out to 2013 so I just don't watch that close any longer.

It is confirmed that it will be on the Fantasy (sent out in DVC newsletter, I think that pretty much confirms it).

It is not known if it will stay at DCA or not though. They did try to take it away a while back, but everyone got upset (probably because they wanted to replace it with Toy Story), so it got extended indefinitely.
