I'm considering a trip to Alabama's Gulf Coast over Spring Break. I don't really know anything about it... my sister has been and really liked it, though. Said it would be great for families. Does anyone know any good guide books or websites where I can get information about this area? I already ordered the free vacation planning book, but I was hoping for information that had specific recommendations about where to stay/eat, etc... If any Dis'ers have this info, I would welcome your recommendations too! :goodvibes

We stay at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan and love it!

We have to eat at Lambert's which is in Foley at least once while we are there. Lambert's is home of the throwed roll. They literally throw rolls to you at your table while you are dining. Very fun! Good "home cooking."

We also like the Original Oyster House in Gulf Shores. Great seafood.

We eat at LuLu's as well. It is owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister, so you can order your cheeseburger in paradise.

We love Gulf Shores. It's great for families- there isn't a "spring break" type atmosphere, if you get my drift. The beaches are clean and white, and there's lots to do. Aside from the great seafood and shopping, we like to take a dolphin cruise. If you're there for several days, you could consider a day trip over to Mobile (45-60 mins away) to visit the USS Alabama. I wondered if that might only interest boys, but my DDs were enthralled. :)

You must eat at The original Oyster House, http://www.originaloysterhouse.com/ and Lambert's is also awesome. We live to go mid-afternoon. Fill up on the all you can eat stuff, and take your main entree home for a great meal the next day. :thumbsup2

Ooh! I'm going to the Jimmy Buffet concert tomorrow. Maybe I should ask him. :beach:
