Alabama DVCers? -- Got 15?

Hey everybody:

Its football season.

Let's talk TIDE & TIGERS.

This is probably the safest place for us to do it!

ROLL TIDE!

Please let me know if you are new to the DIS...and I'll add you to the front page. Please include your hometown or homebase.

How about also...

Where do you own? How do you travel, etc.

Dh and I own 100 points at Boardwalk Villas. We've started going twice a year and staying in studios. We bought APs last March on my 40th bday trip, and will use them again in January.

As for football...I've been a CRIMSON TIDE fan my entire life!

I've gone to school at North Alabama - ROAR LIONS; Troy - Go Trojans, and Auburn so a little War Eagle too!

We're not all one of those two options! :dance3:

BTW...added on at BLT and stayed there two weeks ago. LOVE it! DD loved openeing the curtains and seeing the castle every time she woke up. It's now our new favorite place to stay!

Do I count? My hometown is Tuscumbia, Alabama (birthplace of Helen Keller!) but I'm living in the frozen north of upstate NY now. So I guess I really go in the "moved from" category.

Put me in the ROLL TIDE ROLL category. ;) I'm a Univ of North Alabama alum, and I met my husband when he was teaching geology at UNA, but I was already graduated - no I was not a student of his!

We own 280 points at BLT and for how we travel, my answer is "often." :lmao: We try to get to Disney 2x a year, usually spring and fall. We're AP holders, love to just go to a park to look around - even our almost 8yo DS is a seasoned, "relaxed", non-commando traveler by now. Last trip we were at AK and when asked if he wanted to go on Expedition Everest, his favorite ride, he said "Nah, we can just ride it on the next trip." It's so great to know there's always a "next trip," ya know? Makes everything much more relaxed and enjoyable.

We're really looking forward to our first stay in our new "home" in November!

Nice to see this thread is still around!

Tara...I am from Florence but now live in Atlanta.

I am not a DVC member but always rent points from DVC members! I will be at SSR in a grand villa next Wednesday!!!!! :)

I come from a family of Roll Tiders but WAR EAGLE BABY!!!!

Hey guys!

I got my BS at UNA in Finance and Economics.

I lived in Russellville as a child, but moved to Haleyville when I was 11.

If you haven't already...there is a lot of talk about the Shoals on this thread.

I'm getting my Ph.D. from Auburn, but have been a Bama fan my whole life.

I'm so excited for the Tide this year, and for the UNA lions too!

I am not a DVCer yet, but hopefully will be eventually. I grew up in New York, but I live in Mobile, and really enjoy the friendly people here. Would love any insights or tips about DVC. I read the boards almost everyday(yeah I'm hooked). There's just one more thing,

WAR EAGLE!:rotfl2:

Photobob here, I graduated from UNA with a degree in commercial photography in 1985. My new DIL's parents live in Florence, her dad is the pastor at Woodmont?, a huge Baptist church up there. I live in Oxford now but grew up in Birmingham.

We're in Mobile too. We've only owned a year now, but have 1 DVC trip under our belt and 2 more booked. Trying to make the most of those APs .

Roll Tide Roll!

Melani: I've added you to our Gulf Coast/Mobile list on page 1 !!

I know you and your family will enjoy DVC!

We got APs for the 1st time this year, and I'm itching to use them!

For the No. AL DVCers - saw an SUV last week with a D23 sticker on the back window. I wondered if it might be any of you?

Not from Alabama(we are from North Mississippi), but for my husband and boys I have to say ROLL TIDE ROLL:cheer2:

It's good to catch up with the Alabama DVCers again. However, I've noticed there's way too much r.t. (I can't even bring myself to type it.;)) and not enough WAR EAGLE ! around here.

There now, I feel better.

We are new owners at BLT. We live in Florence, AL. I say WAR EAGLE! Unfortunately, my DH Says Go Dores (Vanderbilt Fan?). I guess it could be worse. I can't type the RT either.:lmao:

How many of Alabama DVCers drive to our second home? If so what is your route and how long does it take you?

Living in Oxford I am five miles to I-20 so we always jump on there and then head towards Atlanta. We take 285 south to 75 south and then take the Florida Turnpike. I forget the road and exit number we take but it's the rather new toll road that brings you in from the backside of WDW, so no dealing with I-4! Total miles around 540 and we have done it in 8 hours and 15 minutes with just potty breaks and a drive thru lunch. Normal stops we are more around 9 hours.

We drive from HSV as well. We take HWY 431 down to your neck of the woods then follow your path exactly. We got a Sun Pass sticker for the windshield so we don't have to stop at toll booths. It wasn't a big deal until we got stuck waiting 20 minutes without one in June (we typically go more off season).

Photobob, that is the route that we always take. We usually make it from Florence in @10 hours & 30 minutes. The only hang up is Atlanta if you don't time it right. We just got back a couple of weeks ago. It was our longest travel time yet - 16 1/2 hours of straight driving .:scared1: When we got near Atlanta, I20 was closed due to flooding. We were diverted onto 92 with hundreds of other vehicles. It took 2 hours to go @5 miles. Roads were closed everywhere. We turned around and came back to Alabama. We took 431 out of Oxford/Anniston to the state line. It was quite the drive at midnight.

The Oxford area has changed in the last few years. There are a lot of new shopping areas. We usually stop for gas & food in Oxford.
