Alabama DVCers? -- Got 15?

Bump!

So how are things going Alabama DVCers?

I'd love to hear from any new Alabama DVCers. Tell us where you are from, your vacations, your football preference (this is Alabama afterall), etc.

Questions ---

Hey Simba's Mom - How did DH enjoy his golfing trip to Alabama? Do you still want to move here? (Said, in the most timid of voices - as if to say, scared of the answer.)

Hey Tidefan? When are you going to Disney Land? What are your trippie details?

I'd also love to hear from kapeman.

Kapeman went to Destin in May and reported back on the DIS. I think he liked it.

Grandbuddy are you still out there? DId you pass ROFR on your contract?
I'd love to hear from all of you guys.

Hey everyone. Photobob here. We went to BWV June 1-6 and had a great trip. My son and his GF went with us this year and we had our first stay in a 2 BDR. I did an extensive trip report with photos on DVC Misc entitled "Good morning from BWV" if you can find it. June 8 or so was probably the last post on it. We went June 1-6 and had the lowest crowds I've ever encountered. Fortunate timing, Memorial Day had past and the northern schools were still in session.

In sent my wife and daughter on a Disney Cruise in April. They had a good time but my wife got very seasick the first night during rough seas. She bounced back after the seas calmed, but it scared her enough that she doesn't want to go again.

We are thinking of a June trip in 2009 to Vero Beach. We stayed there last year for two nights but that's not long enough. We may try for a October 2009 trip for the Food and Wine Festival.

DH ALWAYS enjoys any trip that involves lots of golf, and I will say, any one to Alabama RTJ courses are among his favorite. He especially liked that the guys at one of the courses remembered playing with him last year. Moving to Alabama is still in our plans, if only DH would hurry up and retire, not wait 5 more years!

hey everyone!

great to see so many from Al!

going in Sept - anyone else going then? Sept 5 - 19

Simba's Mom can't wait to welcome you to Al!!! You will be finally in driving distance of WDW in one day.

problem is you will be a golf widow all the time - if he likes to golf that much.

We're cruising at the end of September and will wrap it all up with a few nights at the BWV for FW. Looking sooo forward to that trip. :thumbsup2

And as for football -- we cheer for Kansas State -- AKA the team that ALMOST beat Auburn last year. Can you say "heartbreaker??" :( Sigh.

Take care everyone!

Kristen

We will be at DLH from July 13-17. My DD4 (almost 5) has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) and the national JRA meetings are in Costa Mesa from July 10-13, so we figured what a better time for us to try out DLR since we were already going to be out there. I'll try to get VGC information while I am out there.

We have reservations (or priority seating or whatever it is called out there) for Goofy's Kitchen for dinner one night, Ariel's Grotto for lunch one day, and for the Lilo and Stitch breakfast one morning. Should be fun. I'll bring back pictures...

I really loved reading your trippie! Isn't BWV wonderful!

I'm so glad dh loved his trip. Alabama is a really great place, but like everywhere else...some people are great and others...not so much. Are you going back to HH at Thanksgiving? We are arriving Friday afterward.

No, doing HH in November, and WDW next March.

Oh dear...you really must make a choice.

I hear that DLR is fantastic! I'd love to see a trippie! Are you flying out of BHM?

Yes, we'll be there for Thanksgiving. Ever since we found out we could order Thanksgiving dinner from Signe's, we're there (although with our luck, it'll be back to Piggly Wiggly this year). We're leaving on Friday, but hopefully our paths will cross that day.

It really is nice place. I love the boardwalk area. I may in the future do a BW add on. The easy access to two parks, the shops and restaurants at BW, low points for standard view rooms-all make for a very attractive package. I've stayed at VWL and it is a beautiful resort, second to none but not as convenient as BW.

I haven't read through the posts yet, but we are now from Al. (lived in St. Pete FL all my life until 7/07).

We just bought BLT Jan 21st!!!

We're in Chelsea!

ETA: So it seems like a lot of people drive down to WDW? How long do you stay at disney? We are driving to FL for our Cruise 5/23/09 for 7 nights, and then staying at SSR using developer points for 7 nights. We are driving for this trip. But we will usually fly down SW from Brimingham. Last December it was $900 round trip for the 3 of us.Since we were only staying 3 nights it was too much to drive down.

We always drive. I live in Oxford which is almost exactly 550 miles each way. If we drive with very minimal stops it takes a little over 8 hours. Driving allows us to take all the food and drinks with us that we'll need. We usually stay 5-6 nights.

Good Morning Bama DVC'ers. How are you today. I know all of us Roll Tide fans are doing great. :cool1:

We are heading down to BCV next Friday for Mardi Gras. Can't wait. :thumbsup2

It is great to hear from y'all.

Welcome goofygal1975. I have added you to the Alabama roll call.

Simbanoodle I agree. That is a great big and sorely needed ROLL TIDE!!

That was a fantastic season for the Crimson Tide!! Mardi Gras sounds like a wonderful time to be in the world. Will you be staying with the mouse the whole time, or checking out the festivities across town?? If so, have your kids taken the pledge at WCC??

Hey Photobob: It is nice to hear from you again. I think it takes us about 9 hours from Montgomery. We go on US231 to I10. I'm not really sure because we stop and start alot, have stayed overnite, etc.

Somehow our Disney trips can start at any time of the day or night. We've left at 7 or 8 am, but have also left at 2pm, 5pm, and 8pm. I'm trying to talk DH into starting very early in the morning or way into the night.
We are driving straight through in late March.

Has anyone left at midnight and drove through, or even gotten up early at say 4am and driven through? What do you guys suggest?

We are staying at POR on our 1st night, and want to stroll the grounds and go to Downtown Disney on our 1st night.

Hey Mickey's, I like to leave Mobile when the kids get out of school at 3:00. We have a tradition now the we stop in Crestview and have Whataburger, the kids changed out of their uniforms and settle in. I usually get a standard room at a value resort with my AP discount for the first night. Then I get up early the next day and check in, the room is ready usually.

On a side note, we have been members since 2001 and we have never stayed at our home resort, but have been to WCC several times. :)

We are staying at POR on our 1st night, and want to stroll the grounds and go to Downtown Disney on our 1st night.

We usually leave around 6 am or so. We hop on I-20 five minutes from our house to I-285 south to 75 south and book it on down the road.

The last two trips we were doing a Sun-Thurs trip and were going straight to our DVC resort and then to a park that evening. We are able to make it with a few potty breaks, gas stops and a fast food drive thru in a little over 8 hours.

If we are going down a day early and staying at Pop or All Stars we usually go a little more leisurely pace.

Personally I wouldn't do the middle of the night drive. I don't think I could stay awake for one thing and then I'd be dead tired the next. Some like to do that, not me.

I'm from Bama..................Hoover.......good to see all you alabamians on the dis!

WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!

Alabama here....Huntsville....We always drive, takes us about 10 hours with min. stops. ROLL TIDE!!!!
