It was early entry day (or is it Surprise Morning?) for Animal Kingdom so we got up, showered and ate pop tarts and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the room and made it to the bus stop by 7:30AM.

We were at the park in time for it to open and before we made it very far, we ran into the characters along the main path. I quickly saw that it would have been foolishness on my part to question whether or not Lela would want to collect autographs. She was at it with a vengeance, and had a great time.

Fortunately, the crowds were light and it was fun seeing the characters in Christmas costume. I even got a photo with my hero Goofy!

Once we were done we went straight to Kilamanjaro Safaris. Lela wanted to stay and explore the “caves” she saw along the way, but didn’t put up too much of a struggle. We had a great time and enjoyed seeing the active animals. Lela paid no attention to the poacher storyline and was not concerned in the least with anything other that the animals and scenery.

The detail of the lands is remarkable and it was fun just to walk through and look. We saw an “off duty” Santa in line to get food (He was in red shorts and a T-shirt) and Lela talked to him for a few minutes.

We chose to skip Kali River Rapids since none of us wanted to get soaked and wandered into Camp Minnie-Mickey where we saw more characters! We watched the Festival of the Lion King show – excellent dancing and acrobatics! It was great to see.

From there, we stopped for snacks we had brought and walked through the Maharajah Jungle Trek. The bats were a lot of fun too. Then we dropped in to see the Flights of Wonder show where Lela enjoyed the antics of “Guano Jim” and we had some beautiful birds of prey fly very close to our heads.

We went back to the entrance where Lela returned to her “caves” and we discovered a walking trail with more animals to see.

Although there was more to see, we chose to catch a bus over to
MGM Studios.

The first stop was lunch at the commissary! Then we went straight to Playhouse Disney which was a big hit with Lela and us since we see these characters so regularly in our living room! Rosemary had to be informed who they all were of course.

All of the shows were great. We did not see Voyage of the Little Mermaid and I did not get to visit Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, but we did see Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage and Jim Henson’s Muppet Vision 3D. Lela enjoyed 3D!

Many of the attractions we wanted to see closed early so we waited for the Osbourne Light exhibit to open. It was “snowing” on New York Street which thrilled Lela and made me grateful because I thought I would have to go to Mickey’s Very Magical Christmas Party for that.

The exhibit was very crowded but fun to see and the special glasses were a big hit. Certain lights appear to be angels when you wear them and it is not limited to the Christmas lights on exhibit. We saw the angels on Mickey’s giant hat and even on some fixtures in our own home.

As we exited the park, Rebecca and I decided to wait for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. I knew that I may not ride many thrill rides with Lela in tow (I didn’t want to make her wait for me and did not want to miss seeing anything with her either) so it was a nice surprise to be able to do. Of course, it was a great ride!

We returned to our room and ate junk food then I drove out to a nearby Publix and picked up some more cokes and milk for us to have in the room.

We had a full day but were not too tired.
