Al Lutz Mini-Update: Misplaced Priorities at DLR

What day did this "river sig-alert" happen? How long were people sitting in canoes and in the raft? This is incredible but sad and somewhat predictable due to the conditions that led up to it.

Not having an auxillary plan for people stranded on the island sounds crazy. This better be a lesson to the powers at be, with no real way to deal with this potential stranded islander issue without having more rafts hopefully within a rather short period of time there will be two launch points again and two new additional rafts.

They should just leave the old Injun Joe on the back rivers as a tribute and buy three new boats; three brand new ones could join the other working newer one for a four unit fleet (one could be used for CM/Maintenance) and then put the newer broke down one in rebuild and it can rotate the others in and out once it is ready.

The pirate island attendance is only going to grow, they need to be smart about this and not so frugal.

I would if I could say something stronger but…..Oh bother

Think about what corporate Disney is doing to Disneyland and all of the other parks under their control. They are relying on the people to attend the parks no matter what they do to improve or not improve them, and with the resignation of Emmer it sounds as though it will only get worse.
Looked as though Emmer was a good guy, hopefully they will get someone in there that will continue the Waltesque ways. The only big flaw with these big corporations nowadays is that they have all these muddy hands in every aspect of the company. So even if you have a good Park manager or Vice-President then you still have about 400 people wanting to make a name for thenselves without regard to what the park is actually supposed to mean.

I'm afraid to say it, but I will....

Maybe we should all boycott Disney for a week or two during the year and see how Disney Corp handles THAT loss of profit. After all, WE as the public are enabling them to continue managing this way by continuing to give them our money.
If we don't visit the parks because they are unkempt, broken down, and unpleasant, then we can help the CM's get what they deserve (a break and a new break room), the public get what they deserve (an updated and smooth-running park) , and the Corporation get what they deserve (nothing).

Thanks for the article.

It is a shame to hear of the needless spending that should be devoted to the parks. While there are many similarities between them, to attempt to run WDW and DL under the same umbrella seems to me to be futile. With ticket prices going up and up, it would be a shame to see the guest experience, and the general appearance of the parks to go down and down. Walt wanted the parks spotless and to run flawlessly. This to me is far more important than picking up the minibar tab of an executive, who ultimately reports to me and the rest of the shareholders, not Rasulo and his band of expense account driven men.....
