POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Another case of "do as I say and not as I do"
Sorry about the copy cat post- Brilliant minds think alike!:)

Countdown until TheDoctor starts spamming this thread with Gore's response...5...4...3...2...1...:lmao:

He buys carbon offsets so there's no impact. That must be what all the rich folks do so they can use as much power as they want, tell us we need to conserve and still sleep at night.

Must be...carbon offsets are the 21st century version of snake oil.

Maybe Al Gore is always on the internet. After all, he did invent it according to him. ;)

Ya know, -believe it or not -in and of itself Gore's message does not rile me up too much. I think he's a bit of a modern day Don Quixote, but that's beside the point. When I see hard cold stats like this it tends to make me not think too highly of him anymore. All the "carbob offsets" in the world won't impress me until he unplugs.

Does he have two homes? He said last night at the Oscars that he and Tipper live in LA with two of their children. I wonder how his electricity consumption compares to other homes of the same size. :confused3

First, his average bill is not 20x as large as mine.

Secondly, his home EMPLOYES 20x more americans than the average home.

Shouldnt that "trickle down"???

This silliness is from drudge. Someday the silly conservatives will learn that if drudge is running with a story, then it has to be wrong.

In any event, here is the response from the Gore camp to the latest silliness from drudge and his ilk. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/26/gore-responds-to-drudge/
Responding to Drudge’s attack, Vice President Gore’s office told ThinkProgress:

1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.

2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero....
These are the lengths that climate skeptics must go to suppress action on global warming. There is no meaningful debate within the scientific community, so the right-wing busies itself with talk about how much electricity Al Gore’s house uses — and even then they distort the truth.
Again, if you have to get your facts from drudge, then you are in trouble.

Thanks for checking in Doc, but the spam you put up still doesn't explain or "forgive" the HUGE amount of electricity the Quixote -errrrr, Gore family is consuming. Looks like the link Drudge put out has the real numbers for the Gore mansion power bill. Carbon offsets??:confused3 :confused3 I'm not falling for that one.

So Gore does use all that power but compensates for it by purchasing "carbon offsets"??

Must be good to be rich and able to do that. Most regular Joe's can't.

Well, maybe not 20x yours. Please, forgive my poetic reference to Gore's usage compared with the national average. Feel free to do the math to see how much more than you he actually uses.
