AKV worries

With a March 09 savannah view booked I am beginning to get worried about getting the shaft and instead of a wonderful view get one with no animals and receive a small amount of points in return that we won't be able to use.
I don't know how much if any a room request will help.
Should I consider changing my resort. If I do how do I do it exactly as this will be our first DVC stay? Do I have to cancel first and then book or how is that done?
Any thoughts/opinions....

If you booked a savannah view, you'll get a savannah view. Only in an extreme or unforeseen circumstance would you be moved to a different type of room, but that's certainly nothing to worry about as it is extraordinarily rare.

Changing your resort would simply require canceling your existing reservation and booking a new one, but unless you own points at another DVC property you'll have to wait for the 7 month window to open to do so.

Personally, we love AK and were overjoyed when they started selling DVC ownerships there. We were some of the very first to buy points there. I wouldn't bother moving for the VERY slim chance that something might happen. Just look forward to your stay!

how about just changing it to a value view in the first place?

then you get more points back.

or just going for VWL.

First two weeks of March 09 are WIDE open on availability right now so chances are you'll get a savannah view. The resort is not that booked up. In fact we got a week in a 1br concierge 2nd week of March at the 7 month window - requested pool vie due to closed savannah. They are supposed to assign in order reserved so you should be safe given how much availability there still is.

If you want to stay at any other resort you have your pick right now. That's what I would do if no savannah view was a dealbreaker for me.

He'll get the Savannah view, but from ?Feb-April? 2009 there will be no animals in the Sunset Savannah. During that time it is possible 1/4-1/3 of the Savannah view rooms will not see the Savannah animals.
On the plus side, 66-75 % of the Savannah view occupants will get their animals.

It really depends on how you take it. Can you create your own Magic? :wizard:
Can you use a sense of humor and a great imagination to make-up animals? "Guess What I seeing?" Or bring a coloring book and scissors and hold up animals and take pictures from your balcony, Or point and loudly call animals to make the other guests wonder what they're missing.

When I am paying for the magic using points and I need to use the points.....
I WANT THE MAGIC!!! I already created my kids, lol. I think that was magic.

I made our ressies about a month and a half ago. Should I just put in for another savannah? Which one?
thanks

You can certainly add a request to your reservation. However, that is no guarantee that you won't still end up to be one of those assigned to the "no animal" savanna. It's still a request and you will get what you get.

If ending up on the "wrong" savanna would spoil your trip, then stay somewhere else for that trip. Do keep in mind that as a member, you will be returning many, many times.

I think 10 nights of looking into a deserted field would ruin our experience when we expected to see animals.
Just crossing my fingers.
Any recomendations on other savannahs?

In March, the animal curator at AKL/AKV said they do not intend to have animals off exhibit on the Sunset Savanna that whole time. They gave that large of a window so they could use what they needed. His expectation was that there would only be about a 2 week period where the animals would be off exhibit, and another 2-4 week period where the number of animals would increase gradually. We are staying Jan. 20-27 in a Savanna view 2 bedroom. I have requested Uzima Savanna for this trip. Frankly, I don't see how either one could be better or worse unless you happen to get Sunset with no animals. There are a lot of areas around the resort to see the savannas, and we tended to walk around to all of them so we could witness different ones.

10 nights of no animals would be better than option 2:

nocturnal screaching monkeys!

I could take the nocturnal part but not screaming.....
any votes for other savannah choices???
