We are planning on staying at AKL Studio with a savanna view next April and was interested to find out more about the rooms and locations. We had stayed at AKL Deluxe SV in 06 and it was located on the 5th floor. I seem to have read somewhere that the new DVC rooms are all on the 5th & 6th floors. Is this true? I heard they are just re-doing the deluxe rooms, I was just wondering how they turn these rooms into studio's and 1 & 2 bedrooms.
If anyone has stayed in a SV Studio I would love to hear about the room & views and what floors they are on. Also, any pics would be a great plus if you have them.:thumbsup2
Is it worth staying Concierge at DVC AKV? What are the pluses to it? It will cost us about $200 more for Concierge and I just don't know if it will be worth it. It will be my DH, my GrandDaughter(almost 3 at the time) and myself.
One more thing, can you request a certain section (savanna and/or floor) when getting a DVC room or do you just get what they give you?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a Bunch !:flower3: Cindi

We just got back from a Savannah view studio, #5523. We thought the location was very good, not too far from the elevators that went down to the pool area and near the entrance to Mara.

There is no built in closet in the studio, I suppose what was the closet area is now the studio kitchen. I like the fact that the connecting door is near the entrance to the unit, we heard no noise from the people next door.

The furniture is big, and dark, but it fits in with what I expected it to be. DH wasn't thrilled about us buying points at AKV, but he came away with a good impression.:goodvibes

We had 3 guests stop by for drinks/snacks before our dinner at Jiko's and our friends oohed and ahhed at the accomodations. The balcony furniture includes a footstool, 2 comfortable chairs and a snack table.

Our friends laughed at the "cement pond" that was by our room as well as the mud hole. Well, that pond was great as lots of birds and animals came to drink, and greater kudus used their horns to poke around the mud hole, and this was very interesting to see. We saw lots of animals, even at night in the subdued lights on the savannah.

I don't have any pictures to post, I'm sure others will. As far as concierge, we're going to try it in June. We think it will be a special way to end our 40th Anniversary celebration, just the 2 of us and a week of family fun and sun.
You can make a request, they will remind you that it is a "request."

We are also just back from a savanna view studio at AKV. It was room number 5531 on the 5th floor. Our studio was not a connecting room, and it DID have a built in closet near the door, where I assume the connecting door would be. So, if you can get a studio that is a dedicated studio, you will have that extra closet. Otherwise, it is just the armoire and dresser for storage. I never stayed at AKL before they converted the deluxe rooms, but the set-up of our room was as follows: enter and immediately on the right was the closet, then the kitchenette. The vanity w/ dual sinks were across from the kitchenette. Passing thru this area and into the main area, on the right was a small bench w/ a drawer underneath and then the armoire and then the dresser w/ the flat screen t.v. above. After that was a table w/ 2 chairs. On the left was the bed and a nightstand, followed by the couch, and another nightstand. There were two smaller tables in front of the couch, set up like a coffee table. I hope this helps. I am sure these were the old "deluxe" rooms, because from our balcony, we could see that the rooms on the lower floors were shorter and their balconies did not extend as far as ours did.

When are you going in April?

We'll be arriving on the 27th leaving on May 4th. Will you be going in April also? I love this time of year in FL. I just hope it's as perfect weather as it has been the past couple of times we were there in late April.
