I stayed at the AKV in a standard studio (room 5430) from Monday to Friday of last week. Overall I was VERY impressed! The room was just gorgeous and I loved all of the little special touches. I checked in around 11, and the room wasn't ready, but when I called at 1:30, it was ready. I had a pool view room. It was just my mom and me, and we had plenty of storage space, but I could see how it might be tight for a family of 4. We had really big suitcases that we couldn't get under the bed, so we just stored them in the alcove where the connecting door is to the 1 BR unit. It worked just fine. We looked that humongous Graco Pack and Play thing and put it on top of the armoire. That gave us quite a bit extra storage space in that piece of furniture.

I really liked the bathroom area and having the sinks outside of the bathroom. It was a little tight squeeze in the shower/toilet area, but nothing that bad. I loved the size of the tub. (Then again, I had just been on a Disney cruise, so I imagine any bathtub felt big to me after that - :rotfl: )

I used the free valet parking several times which I really enjoyed. We also used the laundry facilities down the hall the last night, and it sure was nice coming home without facing doing laundry!

Now for some really picky observations:

We had a very difficult time getting the sofa bed open and finally had to call someone from housekeeping to open it for us. We ended up leaving it open all week. My mom said that the sofabed was not very comfortable. I laid down on it and it was quite hard. We ended up taking the comforter off of my bed and putting it underneath the sheet to give her some extra padding. She said this helped a lot. I hate the flat sheets that hotels use instead of fitted sheets, and so I had brought along a queen and full fitted sheet for both of our beds. Surprisingly enough, the full sheet didn't fit on the sofa bed - the queen sheet did! So, we're pretty sure that the sofa bed, at least in room 5430, is a queen size bed.

While I love the flat screen TV, we had quite a time with it. I never could get the remote to work all that well - it was really difficult trying to change the channels, and the volume was all over the place on it. If you listened to the local major network stations, you had to have the volume up around level 20 or higher. However, if you'd switch to another channel like one of the Disney ones or the Weather Channel, you only needed the volume on like level 5 to hear it. My apologies to my neighbors in the adjoining room for my inability to control the volume!

We heard quite a bit of hall noise. Anyone who walked past our room talking sounded like they were right in the room. I'm thinking that the sound must somehow come under the door and just "reflect" off of the tile floor. I might try putting a towel at the bottom of the door the next time to see if that mutes the hall noise.

I'll be back in October, and I'm already looking forward to it. I am staying a few nights in concierge and a few in value, so I hope I get a savannah view at least one of those times. I had visited the AKL one time before, and I really didn't think I'd like it that much because it was kind of dark and remote. However, I found that I really enjoyed both of those aspects. I loved being able to see the animals, and the resort truly felt like a quiet haven. I'm really happy that I bought into DVC at this resort!

Thanks for your honest review:goodvibes

I really do think it was a queen, despite what the literature says about it being a full-size. It's actually a good thing that it is bigger, but I thought I ought to say something in case someone else brings a fitted sheet for it. Unfortunately, all of the cushions (seat and back) do have to come off and you have to find a place to store them. There was plenty of room between the regular bed and the wall, so that's where I put ours. I didn't think about it, but they might have fit under the regular bed, too.

I was also there from 1/14 to 1/18 I found the flat screen tvs to be very hard to use as well.

The sleeper was very hard and my wife and daughter didn't like so we switch which meant I got the sleeper and they got the bed.

I agree with on the noise from the hall way it was crazy loud at night.

I was in room 5012 and found it to be quit small. with 2 pieces of lugage 1 under the sink in the baathroom and 1 in the closet is the only place we could put them.

The pac n play came out of the furniture and in front of the door to the adjorning room as well. I found very hard to get around if the sleeper was pull out since it cover the whole doorway to the bathroom. I think DVC missed with our room

Thanks for the report. Is the actual bed comfortable? Is it a pillow top?

In terms of the flat screen, DW and I just got home from a 1 night stay in a Marriott with a flat screen in our room. I noticed the volume issue there as well. It also took a while to change the volume. The picture was great, though.

The regular bed was very comfortable. Not sure if it was a pillowtop, but it was quite nice! The picture was excellent on the TV. I'm going to be in the market soon for a new TV, and I hope all of the flat screen ones don't have the volume issue that this one had.

Regarding the flat-screen TV's - we had no problems with the remote and I loved the picture. My main problem though was how high it is mounted. I'm just not used to watching TV that high up off the floor.

That is a good point. I have thought of that. Are they mounted the same way in the living area of a 1 br?

How were the crowds that week?

I went to the MK on Monday and left because of the crowds. We saw LOTS of tour groups from foreign countries. I saw them the rest of the week at other parks, but for some reason it was worse that Monday. Other than traveling around in packs, I had no problems with them and they were well-behaved, contrary to previous reports I've heard about these groups! On Monday, Peter Pan was something ridiculous like a 60+ minute wait and a lot of the other rides/attractions were really long, too.

However, the crowds and wait times were negligible on Tuesday (Epcot), Wednesday (AK during the day and MK in the evening), and Thursday (MK). On Wednesday and Thursday I rode Buzz Lightyear time after time with no wait.

The only thing I could think that may have contributed to the crowd level on Monday is that a lot of people may have stayed over for an extra day after the marathon.
