AKV questions

I'm hoping that you will be able to help me answer some of these questions :)

We've booked a 2BR Savanna View for 10th Feb to 20th Feb. We decided today that because it is going to get busy at the Parks from President Day onwards that we would like some extra days at the start of the holiday. So we are planning to fly out on the 8th instead.

Here's the problem we are DVC members and we do not have enough points to add 2 more nights SV to our booking but we do have enough to add 2 more nights if we downground the room to a 2BR standard view. I'm torn because I was really looking forward to viewing the animals from our room but I would also love more time at WDW (of course!) What would you do, would you have the extra 2 nights or would you keep the Savanna view? Don't suggest renting extra points, DH won't because we need to keep costs down and it is our first time home and we don't want to over complicate it. What would be the chance of us getting a Savanna view without booking it, I have heard that sometimes you get lucky with this. If we don't get a savanna view what are we likely to be looking at out of our window.

Finally the last question is slightly easier, my DD are going to be sleeping on a pull out. What bedding is provided for the pulls outs and is it easier to pack sleeping bags so that the beds can be cleared away easier.

Thanks in advance for your help :thumbsup2

Can you not borrow from your next UY?

Claire ;)

Hi Claire thanks for replying I should have said in my thread, we have lready borrowed from our next uy and only have 40pts left in that year. Which isn't enough for the extra 2 nights hence why we either need to rearrange for a standard view or keep with the short holiday.

Standard view is of the pool area and to be honest is a nice view. The only other thing I can suggest is pay one night cash? I take it you didn't get developer points? As for getting Savanna view as this is DVC it is 99.9% unlikely as the units are sold as being 100% occupancy and the only time a change occurs is for unscheduled reasons such as an issue with a certain unit, it is not like booking a hotel room.

Hang on if you joined in Jan 08 you should of got 07UY points? When does your UY start? Also if there are only 4 of you how about getting a 1 bedroom to save on points?

Claire ;)

we justc retuned from AKV in a SV. We said next time we'd giveiyh standard view since we had a horrible view!! We overlooked the uzima savannah and it stunk!!! We could hear noise from 192 and see lights at night. There also were no animals out that often. I'd go with the standard.

Hi Claire thank you so much for all your replies you really are so helpful :)

We brought the entry level DVC membership of 160 points and our use year starts Aug (I think! DH knows!) The 2BR Savanna is 440 points for the 10 nights that we want. We did get 160 points for 07, we are using our 160 points for this use year and we have borrowed 120 from UY 09, leaving 40 points availble to borrow from 09.

There are only 4 of us going but we are possible taking a family of 4 with us too they should confirm next week. If they are not coming then we will just down grade to a 1BR savanna view as this will be fine for us. Although we will then loose some points I think as we can't put them back.

If our friends are coming then I have figured out that I have the 35 points for Monday 9th for the 2BR SV and just need to find the points for Sunday 8th. If they are not coming we may just try and buy a transfer of another 4 points, giving us 9 points which is the cost of the value studio which would be fine for one night. DH would buy 4 points because it is such a small amount. If are friends are coming though I am not sure what we'll do, could they pay cash for one night in a studio and if so could I book this through MS?

Thanks for this information I will keep it in mind. Did you stay in the DVC villas? Perhaps the Arusha savanna is the best one to opt for...

There are two flat sheets, one blanket and two pillows provided for pullout.

Personally, I would keep the savannah room. You could book a cash reservation for the first two nights. You could even try another resort for those two nights and let WDW move your luggage if you want.

Or if using up those 40 points works better, just look at the charts and see if anything fits. Again, you could try another DVC resort or book the Disney collection.

yes, we returned less than a week ago. I had requested Arusha, but didn't receive it. I was throughly disappointed with Uzima, that I wouldn't want to chance it anymore and would just prefer the pool view. Remember savannah requests, are just that, reqests and can't be guaranteed. The first time we stayed at AKL we were on Arusha savannah, so I know how good that view is, and Uzima is nothing in comparision.

I think it varies. We've had rooms on Arusha and Uzima and I much preferred Uzima. I saw many more animals. Also couldn't see 192 from the room. The room was on the hall that shoots off from Zebra trail. I loved it.
