It's our first time to WDW (Yay!) and would like recommendations:

Animal Kingdom Villas 1Br or
Family Suite at Art of Animation?

We have 3 kids aged 9, 8, 6.

I know AKV is a deluxe resort with a cool pool and water slide, but Art of Animation seems so kid friendly.

Please help! Would like your opinion on distance to parks, food options, etc at each of these hotels.

Thanks!

Sorry. I can't answer your question. Just wanted to welcome you to DIS. :)

I had a similar question myself. I started at AoA, then switched to AKL. After reading about the long bus rides to AKL, we switched back to AoA. We plan to spend most of our time at the parks, but want the extra room and bathroom. We also plan to take afternoon breaks so shorter bus rides and a private room factored into our decision too.

I think it depends on how much you think you'll utilize the extras. My attitude is that I can go to AKL and look around.

Sorry I can't be more helpful since this is my first trip n 25 years.

AoA is very very kid friendly, but I would imagine AKL would be too. That was our first choice, but the idea of us having our own, door seperated sleeping area really sealed the AoA deal for us. You can stick the kids on the sofa bed and the fold down table bed, close the door and have some quiet time. I don't know about you, but my kid just does NOT sleep if he's in the same room with us (or maybe it's the other way around).

Meant to add.. We just got back last weekend. Re buses, really these were easy peasy. I don't think we ever waited more than 15 minutes for a bus. MK is definitely the farthest away; however, it's not that big of a deal in our opinion. We never felt hindered by the buses if that makes sense. Several times, we opted to go back to the hotel for a rest or swim. We'd eat lunch and/or dinner at the hotel and it was fine. Keep in mind, we were there at one of the busier times and still it wasn't that bad at all in terms of wait times. The burger line can get a little slow during rush hour, but nothing extreme imo. The food was pretty good too. Lots of options and adults can also order kids meals. We didn't have the DDP so we were paying out of pocket btw.
