AKV Kidani Thoughts

We also own at Kidani and I'll be honest, I didn't like it at all, as far as resorts go. No counter service, the hot tub isn't hot, the pool area didn't leave me very impressed esp as they don't use clean water for the kiddie play area (how much kiddie pee is cycling through there??), and the hours for the gift shop with the refillable mug station are way too short. At 7:30am I'm already on a bus to a park so I couldn't get coffee in the morning.

:confused3 There is a coffee pot in each villa. Why would you have to go to the refill station every morning? :confused3

I have no idea but the signage states it is just recycled water.

Those signs mean that the water is reused after coming straight from the toilets.

Just kidding. Its no different than the pool water. But with all the fountains etc. in the play area kids will be tempted to drink it. They shouldn't drink it, just like pool water, but its no worse than the pool.

We own at AKV and BLT. We did a split stay at both this past Christmas and really enjoyed the resort however... We were put in the Pumba section which was an insane walk every day to and from the bus stop and the refill station. In fact we were so frustrated we ended up driving for the majority of the trip. As much as I enjoyed the animals the lack of convience was too much for us. I also had an issue with the lack of food options. We tried Sanaa and we found very little on the menu we could eat... Okay found nothing DD,3, would eat and DS, 19 and I struggled to find something to try and were not impressed with our food. Now that being said we are both "safe" eaters so new and different are not our strong suite. But we actually ended up driving to various other resorts during the trip to enjoy their food, both table and counter service. So the lessons learned for us was
1. Request close to the lobby.
2. Bring food for the fridge.
3. Be prepared to drive.

I don't think you go to ANY pool and drink the water! But thats just me!!!!!
:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

We love AKV! We 1st stayed at Jambo house in 2002 and fell in love with the resort. We returned in 2005. Then in 2007 we were booked there but received a call from Disney a week before check-in saying we'd have to move resorts:scared1: (we later learned that was due to DVC construction). On that trip, we bought into AKV. We made our 1st visit to Kidani last summer staying in a 2BR with our family of four and DH's brother's family of four. Loved it!
This summer we're trying BCV. When DH and I made a trip to see the Christmas decorations in December, we went through the International Gateway for the 1st time. We thought it was really neat to be so close to Epcot and walking distance to HS too. At the 7-month window I checked availability and moved this summer's trip to a 1BR at BCV. We're excited to try it out. One afternoon we're going to visit AKV for lunch as Sanaa and a little time around the resort.

:rotfl:

You mean I shouldn't of told them it was ok to pee there then? ;)

It's not the end of the world that the water was recycled but it does have that ick factor for me esp since they have signage up about it and my kids do tend to drink the pool water.

And for the poster who asked about the coffee pot in the room. I don't make pots of coffee even at home. I drink one cup and I have a Keruig (sp?) at home. I did see someone on some thread mention there is a travel sized one so I need to look into that which would solve my morning coffee problem which is actually a problem at most of the DVC resorts, even the ones that have coffee at 7am.

I never attacked the resort or said it was a horrible place or anything. It just disappointed us. Not every resort is for every family.

We love Kidani- We have been to the mose close to 15 times. Some days we just hang out by the pool and do not go to the parks. When we go to the parks it is not at 8am that is for sure. You walk all over the parks but do not want to walk at the resort. I did request close to community hall and the pool. We would go to a park in the am and then on the return stop by Mara and have lunch and then walk back. Not a big thing.

I am the odd ball here I don't care for counter service so I just order groceries so we have a grab and go breakfast and snacks in the room.

We loved our stay at AK last Thanksgiving, we are going back for Christmas. I am requesting a Sunset Savanna room this time as I was not in love with my pembe savanna room last time.

Funny thing is DH and I were convinced we were going to hate the AKV decor but we are in love with it.

First though we have to try our other home of BLT.
