Here is my first trip report. Our family of 6 (Me, DW, DS5, DD2 and DILs) did a split reservation Feb 9-16 (DDP for Feb 10-16 due to late arrival) in an AKV Kidani 2BR standard view, our third WDW trip in 3 years and first in a DVC unit a test run for ownership
We arrived MCO at 11PM, picked up luggage and were immediately whisked away by DME as the only passengers. Kidani check-in was a breeze and opened the villa door to find a huge, well appointed villa. Had a quick snack and everyone was off to bed.
In the morning, I went to use DDP snack credits for milk at Johari shop and was told there were no credits available. Concierge let me know new room keys were needed because of the split reservation which was understandable and it took about 15 minutes to resolve. Got 4 bottles of milk and the receipt said we had 56 snacks remaining we discovered they doubled the number of days on our DDP. Rather than reporting or getting new keys I decided to keep track of the usage to ensure we did not exceed our paid allotment. Everyone was up when I got back to the room so the drapes were open pool area buildings and a wonderful partial savannah view. We saw wildebeest, antelope and a large bird (vulture) from our room each morning.
We had breakfast of oatmeal, toast, juice and/or fruit and yogurt in room every morning before heading to parks. Lunch and dinner was always in the parks but it was nice to have the full kitchen to makes evening snacks.
It was a little cool so we did not use the pools but they looked fun. Kids enjoyed daily activities in the library, community hall, observing animals and talking to the resort guides.
Having in-room laundry was so nice and we did a couple of loads on different days so we never needed to wear the extra clothes you normally pack on a week vacation. Were one of those families that mop and sanitize the bathroom so day 4 trash and towel service is preferred over daily housekeeping, which we normally decline. The 3 bathrooms was wonderful as we were able to keep one reserved as the kids bath.
Kidani buses were excellent, generally less than 10 minute wait to/from parks, getting on before Jambo always ensured we had seats. We found the walk from Jambo to Kidani to be about 10 minutes.
Parks & Dining:
Day 2 at Epcot: Mission Space, Innoventions, The Land. Lunch at Electric Umbrella. Dinner at Garden Grill good beef, turkey and sides but fish was typically way overcooked. Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale all stopped by but kids were not too interested.
Day 2 at Magic Kingdom: Visited Toontown Fair on its last day and said farewell to Minnies House. Enjoyed the new play area leading into Poohs adventure. Played Buzz a few times and drove the Indy Speedway once as the line was continuously 45+ minutes due to one lane of construction kind of like at home! Lunch at Cosmic Rays. Dinner at Crystal Palace was good and fun as always. DD and DS were much better with the Pooh and friends and enjoyed marching around the restaurant.
Day 3: Animal Kingdom: Lion King show was very nice. Enjoyed Kilimanjaro Safari and played in the Boneyard for a long time. DD slept through the parade but got to enjoy dancing to the music at park closing. Lunch at Yak and Yeti is mall food court Chinese food but something different. Dinner at Sanaa was very good and we sampled many curries, tandoori meats and seafood. They were able to bring plain pasta for the kids so they were happy too. Nice desserts as well.
Day 4: Epcot: Encouraged DS to try Kim Possible and he discovered it was really fun so we spent about 4 hours completing most of the missions starting from the UK. Lunch at Yakitori House in Japan for noodles and shrimp tempura was another nice change from burgers and fries. Dinner at Akershus, always nice to get the included photo with Belle but DS put on one of those kid faces. We enjoy the fishes, cheeses and cold cuts in the buffet but the Norwegian-style entrees (beef tip, meat ball) dont match our tastes I stick with the pork chop or salmon (to each their own). Dessert platter is excellent.
Day 5: Hollywood Studios: Arrived at TSM fast machines at 10:45 just as they were done for the day but rode standby line twice as both kids enjoy this ride/game. DS enjoyed Pixar Pals parade but kept wondering where the (Block Party Bash) balls were nice to see the extra characters but the Bash concept was far more interactive and fun, IMO. DD kept pointing to Playhouse Disney theater but it was closed for refurb. She really enjoyed character interaction with June and Quincy as there were no other kids waiting. Both children embraced Lotso, even though they know hes a bad guy and we had fun drawing Sorcerer Mickey in the drawing class. We intended to stay for EMH and the Dance Party but the kids were done so we headed home (wow, I just referred to a hotel room as home) before closing. Lunch was Playhouse Disney at Hollywood & Vine, the food was fine and the dancing and characters are really fun. Dinner at Mara was good and nice to have the African themed options again. Nice to have a little walk back to Kidani after dinner.
Day 6: Magic Kingdom: Rode on Tomorrowland Transit Authority while Space Mountain was temporarily down the lights were on and it was neat to see the operations area in the middle but I was too slow to get my camera out for a picture. Lunch at the Lunching Pad was a painfully slow serving experience and the manager took the cashier off before he could fill our order and replacement servers had to keep asking what items we were missing. Dinner back at Boma was excellent and I tried my best to sample everything different. The vegetables, sides and soups were nice and I found there was only one I could not eat. Roast beef was very tender and pulled pork nicely spiced. The mini desserts were fantastic. The walk back to Kidani was needed after this meal.
Day 7: Epcot again. Did I mention DS really enjoyed Kim Possible. After quickly going through Innoventions and Mission Space, we spent our last 2 hours running through World Showcase on our missions. I used up remaining snack credits in the Germany caramel shop and in the UK for British Cadbury chocolates. DS discovered there are different missions in each country as we got the golf ball one this time in UK so he wants to go back. DS also really got into Pooh and Tigger hugging at the back of the UK shop and Alice stopped to speak with him in the store as well.
DME picked us up at 4pm toend our vacation.
