There have been a few questions on it, so I figured I'd pop in while we were there last week.

The one I saw was on the lobby end of Zebra trail, on the 5th floor. It is secured by room key...in other words you have to swipe your key to gain entry. If you're not a DVC member (or renting points from one), you don't get access.

There's some seating in there, and a nice flat screen tv to pass the time if you're waiting for a load to finish.

Here are some pics:

This is amazing! When we were there in December, DH was told by the front desk CM that DVC members had to use one of the two laundromats that AKL members used and that there was no free laundromat until the new building is finished. Is this DVC laundromat new as of 2008?

We used this laundry when we were there the first week in December. I suspect it's been there since the Zebra trail opened. Will there be a similar one on the Kudu trail?

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been wondering about it. We are due to arrive on 1/27 for 4 nights then go on the cruise and was hoping that there was someway to do a little laundry (not really) before the cruise. We are in a studio.

We were there September 1 and we used the free laundry room on the 5th floor. A CM at the check in desk said we'd have to use the lodge laundry room, but he was wrong.

definitely in Sept - my studio was just down from it. So it worked great for me.

but if they are telling members there isn't one - well that explained the no use - me and one other person were it the entire 5 days.

I actually found it fairly hard to find. I walked right by it the first time!

Thats great we are staying at BWV for 5 days and switching to AKV for 6 all in Studios so I know we ( well DW) will have to do some laundry.

Yep, the CM even gave DH a long-winded "explanation" that there was no physical way to add a DVC-only laundry to AKL and that it would have to wait until the new building is finished. She also said there was no way for him to be reimbursed for coughing up the $16 it cost to do the laundry.

He said she sounded so sure of her information...I told him when in doubt, I go to the DIS.

When I was there in November, I was told the same thing and ended up going to the laundry room next to Simbas Cubhouse.

I wonder why they are telling DVC members this???

It wasn't really a big deal at the time because I only had one load and we were moving into a 1-bedroom a few days later, but if I had a lot of laundry, it would have bothered me to find out later there was a laundry room I would have used for free :headache: .

The lack of information the CMs have is so annoying! I asked about it in October and none of them had a clue!!! Luckily, my studio on the 5th floor was just 2 or 3 doors away from the laundry room, so in my exploration, I stumbled upon it. Sigh...

I also asked about the free movie rental and the CMs didn't know. Finally, I went to the gift shop and the CMs immediately knew what I was asking for.

I ranted about this to the poor DVC rep standing at her little podium. I told her I wasn't dumping on her personally, but I hope she could pass the message on to her bosses that better info was needed for the existing members-- the info could be easily included in the welcome home packet. She felt sorry for me and gave my DD a pin and tons of stickers. But she did say she understood my POV and agreed that CMs needed to be better informed. It was still all so new to them, that there's just confusion. NOT a good excuse considering how much points and dues are!
