Question, in looking at the point charts for AKV it looks like the points are more than twice as much for the Grand Villas as for two 2-bedrooms, even at the savanna view rates. Can anyone tell me why they would prefer the Grand Villa for a large family gathering? I was thinking that having the two bedrooms near each other would give us more space and for less points. Are there any floor plans available anywhere for the homes at AKV? Thanks.

The GV has a bigger dining room and living room space. Makes for easier social gatherings in the communal area. 2bedrooms, even at AKV, can be mighty cramped for more than 6 people.

But that said, unless you plan to have a sit-down meal in the dining room a lot or can only gather in your rooms, I personally can't justify the expense of a GV.

Also depending on the dynamics of the groups traveling, you may want separate rooms. I know my SILs would not do well in the same room.

The 2 bedrooms are 945-1075 sq. ft. in Jambo House and 1,173 sq. ft. in Kidani Village.

The Grand Villas are 2,349 sq. ft. in Jambo House and 2,201 sq. ft. in Kidani Village.

So the Grand Villas have more square footage in the Jambo House but not in Kindani Village.

Another thing to consider is weekend nights versus weekday nights. If you have a weekend-heavy trip, the GV can be less than two 2BRs - the price comparison is much closer on weekend nights.

For our trip in September, we have a GV from Wed - Sun, cost 312 points.

Two 2-bedrooms for that same time would be 360 points.

Even a 2BR plus a 1BR is more points (316) than the GV.

Yes, there are floor plans if you go to dvcmembers.com. Go to "view resorts", then pick AKV. Once there look to the left and click "acommodations". There you will find floor plans to all the room catagories. Also, check out this link for 360 views of all the rooms.

Just booked a Grand villa for halloween and cant wait after seeing the room!

The GV floor plan available on the AKV Accommodations page is for the Jambo House GV but the other floor plans (studio, 1BR, 2BR) are for the Kidani Village rooms. You can find the Jambo House floor plans in the latest planner. The same holds for the 360 degree room tour -- the GV is the Jambo House GV but the other tours are the Kidani model rooms.
