AKV...DVC got this one right

Were you onboard with AKV

  • I wanted AKV all the time, and I’m defiantly adding-on/buying!

  • I wanted CRV; but AKL will do and I’m defiantly adding-on/buying.

  • I didn't care, I just wanted another option!

  • No CRV, no add-on for me!

We stayed at AKL on our first family trip, which turned out to be our only non-DVC trip (we bought our OKW contract soon after). It's a beautiful resort and we enjoyed it very much.

Will we buy there? Probably not. It's nice, but nothing we've heard has made me want to run out and buy points. Plus I'm still really hoping to hear about something at DL. To me that seemed like the next project to undertake, but that's just my opinion.

Will we stay there? Most definitely, especially if the rumors of the higher occupancy are true. If a 1BR actually can sleep 5 and really has 2 bathrooms, then it would suit us very well.

So I'm glad there's another option, but there are still too many unanswered questions (cost per point, occupancy, contract expiration date, etc.) to even consider buying at this point.

I can't vote for it, but I was hoping for a DL DVC (like the GCV :thumbsup2 ).

I couldn't help but notice you are in the NW also. Have you not been to WDW? If you go there you might change your mind? DL would be kind of nice, but then we would have to buy tickets for both places. If our WDW AP's worked for both places, I would be up for that! :rotfl: Dream on!...I know.

We currently own points at BWV and HH. I have always said that the only way I would buy points at another WDW DVC resort would be if they built one at AKL. At this point I plan to do a small add-on, but will wait to see the price and number of points needed before making a final decision. I hope they don't wait too long to make that information available. I think spending the majority of the trip at BWV, then a couple of winding down days at AKL would be the perfect trip!

Definitely adding on. Our only regret in becoming DVC members is that we used to stay at AKL once a year and we knew we would miss it. Now we get to have our cake (or should I say zebra dome!) and eat it, too!

I'm so glad they are doing AKL first because DH and I aren't getting any younger!
We frequently stay at AKL for a few days at the end of each DVC stay, so this is wonderful news for us. The only issue of course will be how many points do we need!

I haven't been to WDW yet...but...I have a big surprise trip planned to WDW (staying at SSR) for my DH as a Christmas present! :woohoo: He's going to be VERY SURPRISED!

Still, we both really want a DVC at DL because it's so much closer for us, and of course because we LOVE DL! With a DVC at DL , we could make several trips a year. That would be AWESOME! :thumbsup2

I know what you mean! DL is so much closer for us too, but I have to say, we really prefer WDW over DL! There are those people that still do prefer DL over WDW. It will be interesting which one you will be after you trip!

What a great surprise for your husband! SSR is our home resort, but we haven't stayed there yet, because we just bought last year after renting pts. Our first trip home will be this summer! I think all the resorts are great!

We stayed at OKW and BWV last year. Both were wonderful in there own ways! I have to say, we had the best room at BWV! I paid the extra money for PV and it was definitely worth it! We had a big balcony over looking the courtyard, water, boardwalk, and EPCOT in the distance! :woohoo: I think that was the deciding factor for buying DVC. We came home and contemplated it, but when the had that great deal last year, we took the plunge! :woohoo: You better be careful! You might get bitten by the "DVC Bug" :earseek: They swarm at all the DVC resorts! :rotfl:

So what do you all think about the 7 month booking availability. Will it be more like trying to do that at BCV or more like SSR?
That will determine whether I buy in or not. :confused3

AKV sound great. Hopefully they will install a walkway to AK. We will not buy into it unless there is a great price offer. We will use the 7 month window. Have never had a problem at 7 months, even HHI in June.

We hardly ever make reservations in the 11-7 months period, so I'm not planning of adding on at either option. I will like to stay at the AKV at least once just to get to know the resort, but to be honest with you, with two little ones under 3 I think we will stay at those hotels close to the parks. At this point, not even SSR (our home resort) makes it for us. We also own some points at BW and I think there is where will stay most of the time, until they open up the CRV of course. Then, that will definitely will be my first option (using the points that we already have at the 7 month window). Since we live in florida and the kids are so small, we can actually work around to when there is availability on the resort we want to stay.

AKV will be a wonderful resort, but I won't be buying.

I wish Disney would figure out that many of us like to go to the theme parks without having to ride those awful buses. At AKL, you can't even walk to the theme park next door!

If they would build a walkway to AK I might think differently, although I really prefer MK and EPCOT to the other parks.

That said, I'd certainly like to stay at least once. I predict lots of split stays, with members scheduling their resorts days at AKV and their park days at the EPCOT resorts.

I think they should shuttle us between AKV and AK on top of animatronic elephants! It would be slow-going, but it would be fun!
