AKV dining for children

We're looking forward to our trip in July. :thumbsup2

On the summer trips we may spend whole days at the pool. However, it doesn't seem the quick serve dining options are friendly for my kids. We're already planning around this just in case it doesn't look viable once we're there.

We may hop to Jambo for a swim and a bite at Mara. Boma is always one of our 2 "$plurge" meals. My 2 oldest are 11 + 13 and I want to avoid paying $30/adult plus tip each for every meal. Not sure how easy it will be, yet, to walk or bus between Kidani + Jambo - especially in the July/Aug sun.

AKV seems to only have Sanna - table service and the food at the pool. Unless we travel, no options for quick serve breakfast. The pool options, unless they change, don't work for my kids. Private dining sounded viable. But that wasn't much better and it is expensive.

Here's hoping for quick serve that has: chix fingers, fries, burgers, dogs, pizza, pasta. If anyone has Mickey Premium Bars, we'll do backflips. :wizard:
Although, we do miss those 100 Years of Magic Bars.

I was hoping that they would have something like that at the pool area. Either I mistook what someone else had mentioned or I made it all up in my mind but I thought that at Kidani they had the QS food items at the pool bar area. Am I wrong? Wouldn't be the first time nor the last.

Why not get some items to prepare in your room. We like to get sandwich items so we can bring lunch to the pool. If you don't have a car you can get them through an online grocery service (netgrocer, etc.). Not only will it be more convenient, it will save you a ton of money!

CapeCodFam, thanks for the link. I checked it out also and have to say I am dissappointed too. I was hoping for a place to grab some of the cheaper 'hot' food such as hamburgars and chicken fingers on days I don't feel like cooking in the villa or just want something quick for lunch by the pool area without having to return to the room and whip something up. I have a hard time getting into cold sandwiches at home let alone on vacation.

Ah well, at least I know ahead of time and will do more planning before I go!~

I agree - even the kids get tired of the same things every day.

Even if you don't have a car or want to use a delivery service, the resort store (Mara) will have some basics that you can keep in your room - bread, fruit, jelly peanut butter, lunch meat, cheese, chips, milk, pasta, etc. They may be a bit more expensive at the resort than the grocery stores, but it's still less expensive than QS and convenient for those days you don't want to leave the resort.

Thanks to all!

Dining in our room, other then cereal/toast/coffee for breakfast, is not a choice we really want to do. We're on vacation. :) Seeing the options, we're going to plan on lunch and dinner at parks, DD, and other WDW hotels.

I guess we were just a little disappointed in the kid options at Kidani. Most other deluxe resorts do have better options, IMO. BC has beaches & Cream + Hurricane Hannahs, BWV has ESPN / spoodles window / Food carts, Poly has a great quick serve, etc. We love the Moderate + Value resort options too.

Children are always welcome everywhere at WDW. But, some dining places are not encouraging for kids who are not ethnically adventerous with their palates. Not a complaint. Just an observation. My wife and I would love to try more experiences. But, if there's nothing likeable for each of my 3 kids, we don't.

Best wishes to all and happy dining! :mickeybar

I completely agree. I was really hoping for a few standard kid-friendly choices (sort of like what's available at the CSR pool). At least they could put in a hotdog machine and a nachos option. I know my kids would be thrilled. I love the idea of the ethnic foods but not for every meal.

I too am hoping that they add some kind of cs option at Kidani. No way would my two sons eat the food offered at Saana. :sad2:Or for that matter my DH who is not an adventurous eater!:scared1: I like to try different foods but I'm not eating alone and the trek to Mara is kind of far. Even they if added a small cs place near the store area, especially for breakfast and lunch items. Does anyone know if there is room for an area like this near the Kidani store?

Does anyone know if they are going to have grills for guest use? i know that SSR does and I thought it was in the plans for Kidani. That for me would be an option for my family in place of the lack of kid friendly counter service.

Kidani has them. If you click the Maji link on my previous post, you can see the covered area w 4 bbq's. They seem to be a standard staple of all DVC's.

I sent an email to member satisfaction asking if they would kindly consider adding more options. ...You never know. Regardless, we'll just plan around it and still have fun.

I just left Kidani Village today. There is a kids menu now for the private dining. It included a kids pizza, Mac N' Cheese, and many sides to choose from. I have a picture of the kids menu, but because photobucket is doing maintenance I can't post it just yet.

You should also know that when you order through the private dining line at the pool bar you are charged a $3 trip charge plus and automatic 18% gratuity.
