I wasn't aware that DVC members had access to concierge service anywhere. Has anyone stayed at AKV with concierge service? If so, were the food selections pretty good? Do these rooms typically fill up faster than the other types of rooms at AKV?

We were fortunate to stay at GF last year (4/3) deal and got a magical upgrade to their concierge level and it was unbelievable and so convenient. I am just hoping that it is the same at AKV, I think we would definitely take advantage of it, as long as it is good.

Thanks

There are only 5 2-bedroom lock-off Concierge units available to DVC members at AKV. At a max there can be 10 rooms booked (5 Studios and 5 1-bedrooms).

Since they are mixed in with "normal" AKL rooms, do DVC members still get the free internet/laundry?

They are not mixed with regular guest rooms. The DVC concierge rooms are on the 6th floor of Jambo House. The regular hotel concierge rooms are now on the 4th floor. If you are in a concierge studio, you still have access to the dvc member laundry room on the 5th floor and it's free for members.

Yes. They are really not "mixed". The DVC concierge rooms are the only rooms on the 6th floor, same level as the lounge. There are no AKL rooms on that floor. AKL concierge rooms are on the 4th floor (but they access the same lounge on the 6th floor).

I stayed there in June 2008. The best feature was access to the Sunrise Safari (costs extra). You also get daily housekeeping & turndown service. The food was OK. Breakfast was only cold items with the exception of oatmeal. Dinner was trays of appetizers & desserts from the restaurants but they would only bring one or two out at a time and people would pounce like vultures.

We stayed at AKV Concierge this past July and are totally in love with it. Good chance that will become our vacation of choice more often than not. We stayed in a Studio and had no complaints at all.

Good selection of snacks and goodies, very cool to get a "free night cap" and those darned African Smoothies are worth the price of admission all by themselves.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for AKV Concierge

does anyone know how easy it is to AKV concierge at 7 mos, We don't own at AKV.

I would say not likely. I was not able to book at the 11 month window for my next vacation. That being said, there is a chance at the 7 month window depending on when you go.

I appreciate all the help. It looks like AKV is going to be come home away from home for us, unfortunately our next visit is scheduled for November, which is already inside the 11 month window, so it probably isnt to likely that we will have a chance at the concierge level for this trip.:headache:

I remember seeing an overlay of the resort when DVC first opened at AKL
Does anyone know where that thread is?

I wanted to see if any of the 1 Bedroom DVC Concierge have a Savana view

Thanks for any info:goodvibes

If I remember correctly there are more rooms on the savanna side then the pool side. Maybe 6 savanna and 4 pool. The views are not why you want to stay there. Much of our view, (savanna view) was obscured by the roof and support beams. You are at the end of the savanna and there aren't really many animals visible.

Three two bedroom lockoffs with Sunset Savanna. Two two bedroom lockoffs with pool view. But the roof overhang impedes the view.

When I stayed there in late June 2008, my friend who owns at BCV got a 1 bedroom at exactly 7 months. She did it under the old day by day system.

If you really want to try it, then waitlist it. You never know when someone will cancel and you'll pick it up. If you don't get it, you're no worse off than you are now.

I called exactly at the 7 month mark and booked a 1 bedroom!! I'm so excited. I didn't realize just how few rooms are available. I feel very lucky!

Here's a silly question but I don't know the answer so.....

Is the AKL the only resort that offers concierge service to DVC members?

Yes it is the only DVC Resort that offers DVC villas with concierge club access; but as other posters here have said the number of villas is very limited (just 5 2bedroom lockoff villas; if each of these is broken down there will be 5 1 bedroom villas and 5 studio villas).

But you can use your DVC points to book outside of the DVC resorts and get concierge club access at onsite WDW hotels that are part of The Disney Collection which would be Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Yacht Club but the points required to book concierge club at these 3 are extremely high per night ranging from approximately 61pts through 105 points per night depending upon which of these 3 resorts you choose & also what season & day(s) of the week booked.

Thank you, & here's another silly question....

what does a 2 bedroom "lock off" villa's mean?

Uhhh....never mind, I just figured it out seeing how you posted 5 1 bedrooms & 5 studio's! I'm sorry...should have really read it over carefully before I posted!
