AKV Concierge - Safari Ressies ?, Some May Not Want To Do Them

We've invited friends to come with us next May to AKV concierge level and we're all staying in a 2-bedroom.

I've told them about the safaris available to concierge/lodge guests and the cost and asked if they'd want to do any of them. I have gotten no response which I take as a no.

The question is, can DW, DS and I do the safaris even if they don't want to?

I will be emailing the concierge around the first part of November.

I don't believe all individuals staying in a room are required to participate in this activity. The only all or nothing I know of is the Disney Dining Plan.

It's not an "all or none" deal. Any subset of the guests in the room can sign up.

I did the sunrise safari in June with 3 friends, it's definitely a don't miss. It lasts over a hour, you get a guide, they stop several times for pictures and to tell about a location, then the great breakfast afterwards.

How much does the Sunrise Safari cost and where do you go for breakfast? That sounds really nice.

Perhaps your threads are easy, but it wasn't easy getting the 2 bedroom concierge, was it??!

Definitely not! And I got a concierge studio for my daughter as well for May. She'll be staying 4 nights, we are staying 6.

We did the Sunrise Safari in early September. Our breakfast was in the dining room in the back of Pizzafari. It was really very, very good. I think my DH got some shots of the food. I will post when I track them down.

Check out the below link on it!

DW and I have done the Sunrise, Wanyama (Sunset) Safaris and the Wildlife Discovery Excursion. We loved them.

Do you recall what days the Wildlife Discovery Excursion was? Any details about it? It's looking like we have the "wrong" days booked at Concierge (check in on Sun and check out on Wed) to participate in the Sunrise safari so we need to look at the other two. :upsidedow

OK - I think I've found some more information on the Wildlife Discovery Excursion - could someone verify if this all sounds correct?
The WDE takes place at AK and is much like the Sunrise Safari except no breakfast.
It is open to all concierge/club level guests.
They do two Excursions every day, weather permitting.

Just curious ... did you call and snag these on first try? Or did you happen to walk them a wee bit? ;)

I don't think they are the same thing. I believe the WDE are in separate vehicles that are not the same as the safari trucks. They are also later in the day, not at "sunrise."

This was in the informational e-mail that I received from AKV regarding our concierge stay that will be in March:

The Wildlife Discovery Excursion takes the Kilimanjaro safari experienceto the next level. Disney's Animal Kingdom invites you to venture off the beaten path of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve for a unique animal observation and photo excursion. Led by a seasoned Safari Guide and an Animal expert, this adventure takes you off the Safari trail, stopping at special observation and photo areas throughout the 110-acre savannah of the reserve. The tour takes place Tuesday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. Guest meet in front of Mombassa Marketplace 15 minutes prior to the tour. It can accommodate up to 14 guests who must be age 3 and older. Payment is taken at time of booking. There is a 48 hour cancellation policy. Cost is $45.00 per person inclusive. You spendabout an hour our on the trail slipping between ride vehicles of the Kilimanjaro Safari and stopping to view and photograph the animals. The vehicle is climate controlled. Guest may stand up in the vehicle (there are hand holds all over the vehicle). It is a great chance to get a different perspective on the Kilimanjaro Safari. You may take non concierge guests with you on this experience. Not included with any package."

That sound right to me. They gave us separate fastpasses to ride Kilimanjaro Safari the usual way.

Check out my vacation blog for pics and more info on AKV concierge. Make sure you check the archive. See the link below.

Thanks for the replies on the Wildlife Discovery Excursion. I think that sounds like the one we might try and book!
