Hi everyone!
We are booked at our home resort SSR for 12/19-12/26,2009. We are thinking of trying for the AKV Concerige for a 1 bedroom at the 7 month mark. Has anyone had any experience or anything they can share about staying at the concerige level?
Any help would help be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!:) :) :)

First of all, I just wanted to be sure that you knew that it's a long shot that you'll be able to book AKV concierge for that timeframe at the 7-month window. Of course it's always worth a try--the worst they can say is it's not available.

We stayed AKV concierge this past December, and we really enjoyed it. The pre-planning assistance was nice--we emailed them a list of all the ADR's we wanted, and they made them for us. Also, we had a ball on the Sunrise Safari. I would definitely do that! They also offer a Sunset or Wanyama Safari that is more costly since it includes a dinner at Jiko. We found the food in the lounge to be quite tasty, especially this soup they served called Mulligatawny and of course the famous zebra domes.

AKV is my home resort, and I am already waitlisted for the first 4 of the days you are wanting. :scared1: You can always try the waitlist too. :)

I agree with ead79, with so few concierge rooms it might be a long shot to get a 1br at 7mos. It is certainly worth a shot.

We very much enjoyed our stay there in Oct 08. It was great having the lounge on the same floor and my family liked all the offerings. DS especially loved the Uncrustables (he calls them pb&j pies). IPO made all my ADRs even the ellusive CRT.

The only thing that was somewhat difficult for us was the daily housekeeping and turn down service. It never failed that every single day one or the other was trying to do their job when we wanted to be in the room. Yes, we could go to the lounge but when you're in a wet bathing suit your options were limited. I think if we do it again sometime we'll just put out our do not disturb sign a couple of the days.

I do realize that it will be a long shot but it is always worth a try. We were able to get a 2 bedroom at BCV this past summer about 4 months before our trip. All you need is a little pixie dust!

Keep in mind that AKV Concierge is only 5 two bedroom lockoffs. At a max, there can be 5 studios and 5 one bedroom villas.

If you want to read about people's experiences there is a "Concierge" thread on the DIS Resorts Board. It's for all of the deluxe resorts that have concierge level rooms but there seems to be a lot of info about AKL/AKV.

Here's a link to that thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1943943. Good luck - you won't know until you try!

DH and I were also thinking of trying 2 nights concierge at AKV in late October in a studio, does that seem possible or unlikley?:confused3

There are only 3 or 4 1BRs on the Concierge level so you're going to need a LOT of pixie dust to get one of them for that time of year. You will have better luck trying at a slower time. Best of luck but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

ETA: As erionm said, there are a total of five 2BR lockoffs. If they rent out one or two as 2BRs, that leaves only three or four 1BRs and the same number of studios. It is a very difficult reservation to get for a busy time of year even at 11 months out.

Since you are only trying to get 2 nights, you might get lucky. Give it a try! Call right at 9am as soon as your 7-month window opens.

We were wait-listed for a 2 bedroom at 11 months for early next December.

Good Luck

We have a studio booked for Sept 8-14th and wait-listed for Sept 6-8th. This was even booking at the 11 mth window. It is worth trying for it. It can't hurt!

I can't wait! Does anyone know if I have to contact concierge or will they contact me?

So you've heard that it's a long shot.

I have to say, I was NOT impressed with the concierge at DAKV. I have stayed at concierge level before at other hotels, so I was expecting it to be at least as good as Marriott's.

At check-in they had a group of about 12 checking in ahead of us, who had some meltdown, there was only 1 person doing check-in. After waiting on the order of 20 minutes, he called someone to take care of us, who escorted us down to the regular front desk (why they could use the second terminal they have on the level I don't know) where they got us our keys, so we could get into our room, they asked us to come back later so they could finish the check in.

The food is good on the Concierge level, I like be able to get something to drink pretty much anytime I want durning the day. And they are able to give us a hand with a few things. But I asked them to get us tickets for something, I think it was Pirates and Princesses Party but it might have been Ciq, point is they told me they didn't have access into there system, and all they could do is call.

Outside of it being the "Gateway" to the sunrise safari. I really don't see any reason to stay there, I honestly would rather stay at SV room on a regular floor and keep the extra points.

We love the DAKV (enough that we turned down the SSR at a good price to own at DAKV, which was announced but not selling yet). However, unless I was going on another safari, I wouldn't use the concierge again.

It's worth noting that even including the extra cost of the concierge room, the safari is well worth it. But I don't think the concierge is worth it for it's self.

They will contact you. However, if you want to book the safari, I would go ahead and contact them, 6 months out (which as I recall was how long out they booked them.)

With the change to the dining and tours reservation system, you can't book the safari's until 90 days out.

I called yesterday to ask about adding one night to our 2 night stay at AKV Conciege and I was shocked that it was available for the Friday after Thanksgiving. We were booked for only 2 nights and then going to BWV for 5 nights and I was expecting to be on a waitlist but was sooooo surprised that a studio was open after what is suppose to be a very busy week. We have never stayed on conciege and we are very excited to be trying it. You should call, you just never know. Good Luck with it. I will send you some pixie dust.
