I have a 1bdr cl room for next oct do I have to put in a request to not have a handicap room?

There are only five one bedrooms and they could be used as a two bedroom lockoff. You can request it, but it isn't guaranteed.

Two of the five 1BRs are HA but only one of those two has a roll-in shower instead of a tub. Both of the HA 1BRs have a savanna view.

If you are worried about getting a handicapped accessible CL room, request pool view, and you will be assured of not getting a HA room.

We are the DVC family who, according to DVC, has been assigned to handicap accessible rooms more than any other member. In fact it has occurred so many times that DVC has refunded all of our points for two of our stays. During one of those stays our then six year old fell on the floor of the bathroom with the roll in shower and cracked his head badly.

DVC has instructed me to put on our reservations each time the notation that we do NOT want the handicap accessible room. I suggest you do the same.

Amen to this advice. I have a missing disc in my back and need a bathtub - period. I'm also almost 6' tall and I don't need to aggravate my back problems by bending unnecessarily in the kitchen to reach countertops designed for wheelchairs. A handicap room is a dealbreaker for me.

I would request a pool view and a tub!!

I still want want my points backs for the 10 nights I spent on CL in the 1 bedroom without a tub.
With the lounge you really dont need the kitchen as much, you get daily housekeeping so no need to laundry as much, you dont have an ensuite master bath at Jambo, so to pay all those points for a 1bedroom and not get a soaking tub, I was not a happy camper.

There are only 5 units, so the chances of moving are slim to none and Slim left town!:rotfl:

LOL! That's why I said to request a pool view. None of the units on the pool view side are handicapped.

I was told your not allowed to request views CL at ALK.
so not sure that would help.

Besides, what the big deal? So it's HA? Does that really change the room that much?

Reading the thread I guess there is.
So no tub in HA room?
Not sure what I would prefer? Savanah view with HA and no tub
or Tub and Pool view?

You can request a tub and as MS told me when I called to complain, a tub is not guaranteed, so be sure to request if you want 1:rotfl:

The savannah is not that cute:goodvibes I can soak in the tub and drink a glass a wine from the lounge and forget I dont have a savannah view!

I forgot to add, no center kitchen island in the HA units either.

I still love AK CL, I just book studios only and dont care what view I get:wizard:

Really low countertops in the HA units as well - not good if you are tall and want to use your kitchen.

On our last trip, we had a 1 bdrm with a pool view, and a 1 bdrm with a savannah view, which was HA. The kitchen appliances & counter tops were really low. Plus it didn't have an island in the middle. The bathroom vanity was low, and the door in to that area was a pocket one, instead of a regular door. I didn't quite understand all this, because it did have a tub. I had always thought that HA rooms had roll-in showers. The whole feeling of the room was so different than the non HA one. It also seemed much smaller. Yes, there were animals to be seen on the savannah, but I'm not sure that made up for the interior space being "less" than the non HA one. If we didn't have the 2 rooms to compare, we probably would have not noticed the difference quite as much. Staying CL DVC at AKV was great, because we could just walk out our door and get drinks & snacks. However, that HA room diminished the experience for me.

I stayed there 2 years ago. It was a milestone birthday for my friend and she really wanted savannah view. We got pool view (1 bedroom). She was really disappointed, the next morning she went to the CL desk and asked if any savannah views were available that day. The cm checked and we got moved to the HA savannah view (first room). We didn't think the roll-in shower was that bad. Since the regular room has a tub/shower combo, I thought it was hard to get into, it was high.

I hadn't thought about that. For people who don't plan to use the whirlpool tub and have issues climbing over the high sides of that tub to use the shower, the roll-in shower would be easier.

We use the whirlpool nearly every night of our stay. It's one of the main reasons we book a 1BR instead of a studio. A long soak in the jacuzzi feels so good after a day in the parks! If I paid for a 1BR and did not get a tub I would be very disappointed. It would definitely affect the quality of our vacation.

I'm right with you on that one! We had the dreaded corner studio at CL last time, and while it was savanna view, it was so tucked into the corner, we couldn't see anything other than road.

On the other hand...Our 1 bedroom pool view room was wonderful! We could even see some savanna animals in the distance.

I agree Diane! LOL!! The corner studio is connected to the HA 1 bdr with the roll in shower. Talk about a double whammy! I would not classify that studio as Savannah view, more Savannah side.

The good news is, it is the closest room to the lounge and the wine!:rotfl:

So you can drink your wine and forget you are looking at the side of a bldg:lmao: And it does have a standard studio tub.
(Im really not a lush, I just play 1 on tv:surfweb:)

Thanks for all the suggestions, should I ask for a pool view? Or ask for a tub? I know it's just a request and it's can't be guaranteed but what's my best chance? I am not concerned with my view. By the way does anyone have any pictures of the cl rooms? Are they the same as other jambo house rooms? I have only stayed in kidani. I am staying in jambo house in 13 days, it will be my first time staying there I have a sv studio I am wondering how it will compare to kidani.
:goodvibes thanks again!

Just out of curiousity, what is so special about Club/Concierge level at AKV? Hoping to stay at AKV & BLT for a birthday trip in 2012, and wondering if its worth asking for (though doubtful the room would be available at 7 month mark from the look of it) in a 2 bedroom ... mostly we just want to do a few nights with a Savannah view since we haven't been to Florida since AK was built.

I'd just request a bathtub if that's your main objective. None of the views on CL are all that spectacular.

If you want a good Savannah view, book just that - and you are right that a 2 BR CL at the 7 month mark would be hard to come by at most times.

I use a power w/c and there are NO CL studios available for us- I think that's a much worse situation as we have to pay for a 1-bedroom just to get the roll-in shower. There are also no value studios at Jambo with a roll-in shower, so effectively disabled guests who need those accommodations are forced to use more points than an able-bodied Guest. We purchased a 200 point add on at AKLV's when they first started selling as we loved CL there and figured we'd need the 11 month advantage. If I'd known then what I know now ( that the lovely CL rooms with roll-in shower would be remodeled and removed), I'd have not purchased those additional points.---Kathy
