We are taking a trip to Disney in June 2008 and are in the motions of renting from a DVC member at AKV. We will be getting a 2 Bedroom there, we have 3 adults and 2 children (8 and 5yrs). We probably want a savannah view. What location should we request to be close to the pool and other kid friendly attractions and yet not too far from a bus stop? (My mom is going and she has a little trouble getting around ~ she will have a wheel chair when we go to the parks so I would like to take that into consideration too)

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

The DVC building will not be completed until sometime in 2009, so you'll be in Jambo House. There is only one bus stop in front of the lodge. Only one pool. Savannah view will depend on the category of reservation you get with DVC points. Not all have Savannah view. There are elevators in each wing if I remember correctly. At least one set on each side of the building.

They won't let you request a specific savannah, so my request would be something like this:

Zebra trail, near the elevator to the pool.

That should put you close to an elevator that will get you to the pool area, Mara, and near Boma's and Jikos.

No matter WHERE you go for savannah view, you're going to be a bit of a haul from the bus stop....even if you were right off the lobby on Ostich trail...but then you're aways away from the pool and the restaurants.

Thanks for the advise and the map.
Can anyone tell me what the pool is like there?
Does anyone have any links to some pictures of it?

When the DVC construction is completed in 2009, there will be two buildings.

Jambo House (1), which is the current location of the AKL. DVC villas are located on the 5th and 6th floors and were formerly the Concierge/Deluxe rooms. The rest of the rooms are AKL rooms.

Kidani Village (2) - totally DVC. Kidani Village will have a themed pool with all sorts of activities. Kidani Village is the part that will not be completed before 2009.

The pool at Jambo House is a nice pool with subtle theming. There is currently only one pool at the AKL/AKV.

The pool is nice, big, has a waterslide, a nearby pool bar, and a couple of hot tubs near as well.

Lots of chairs around it, and some animal viewing spots close by, too.

It also has a "zero entry" area. You can literally wade into the pool from the pool deck without a ladder...which is nice for the kiddies.

Is the AKL the same building as the AKV?

For now, yes.

AKV will, eventually, be the 5th and 6th floor of the current AKL (called Jambo house) and it's own separate building (Kidani Village).

But Kidani will not open until sometime in '09.

:)

If you want to be close to the lobby and entrance so that you are also as close as possible to the bus stop, ask for Arusha Savanna near Arusha Rock but also close to the elevator. You will be on the 5th floor which is two floors up from the lobby, which is on the thrid floor. If you also want to be close to the pools and food, you should ask for Zebra Trail near the elevator. The absolute most convenient rooms would be on Giraffe Trail but those are not savanna view rooms - only pool or standard. There is still a lot of walking and you might want to think about having the wheelchair at the resort as well. A bit of a hassle with the busses so it will depend on how much walking she can do.

Thankyou for all of you suggestions.

I have reservations at AKV in a Savannah view 2 Bedroom and I had the owner we are renting points from request Zebra Trail near an elevator to the pool. It's a good thing for the owner that she moved expediciously because I began to consider owning at AKV too. One more day and I may have called her up and said forget it. The only bad thing about that is that I probably wouldv'e opted for their contractor points and used them at the 7mos mark out. Then I may not have been able to get in at AKV. It is our first family trip to Disney so maybe I oughta see if it's something I could see us doing yearly or at least every other.

Does anyone know if Zebra trail has pool view rooms as well?

I am booked in pool view in November and am wondering what is the best Trail, location/floor etc. to request?

TIA, :goodvibes

I was wondering what people thought of the zebra trail rooms that face the UZima savana.

I know the view of the savannah is great from the viewing location back behind the pool/hot tub.

Anyone have any pics to share?

Looking at the resort map, I was wondering if the sections that jut out into the savannah cause viewing issues, if your toward the inside.
