Just wondering if anyone else got a phone call last week about the closing of Sunset? I got a call from someone at AKV who wanted to let me know that I was put in one of the rooms that would be facing the Sunset Savannah, which will be closed during our stay in 3 1/2 weeks. She did say that the point difference between the Savannah view that we booked and a regular view would be returned. I was just curious if anyone else got the same call??

There is information on the member website regarding this, it was announced a few months ago:

REMINDER - Animal Acclimation Affects Sunset Savanna View

As the development of Kidani Village continues at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, crews are preparing to complete the new savanna and acclimate the animals to their new habitat.

To accommodate this important process, animals are not scheduled to be on Sunset Savanna from January 15, 2009, through April 15, 2009. As a reminder, Members and Guests who reserve a savanna-view room during this time will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings include a notation to that affect.

Approximately 30 days prior to arrival, the resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna view room. Affected Members will be notified, and after their stay, will receive a Vacation Point credit reflecting the difference between a savanna view and standard view (no additional compensation will be given).

If this process is not acceptable to you, please consider alternate stay dates or resorts. Also remember that animals on the other savannas can be viewed from multiple public locations at the resort.

I knew that it was a possibility. I was just wondering if anyone else got a phone call in the last week or so. I'm ok with it...a little bummed that we ended up on Sunset, but hey, we'll still be in Disney, right?? :goodvibes

When did you book your trip? As I recall, the way this is supposed to work is that the earlier you booked your stay, the lower your chances of ending up on the Sunset Savanna during this time. I'm just curious if they are sticking with that plan.

Our trip was booked at the end of May...so about 8 months out. She did say that they were going by when the vacations were booked as to who got bumped to Sunset.

And I always thought it wasn't possible to assign a room until the day of arrival. Silly me.

In a thread several weeks back someone mentioned that during this time period the Sunset Savannah rooms were going to be changed over to standard view. Therefore using the point allotment of standard view instead of savannah view. We booked standard view because we wanted the pool view guarantee at Jambo. We also booked 7 months out. Has anyone heard if this is indeed what is going to happen? Could we end up in the Sunset Savannah when we actually booked standard view rooms? :confused3

I don't think they are assigning specific rooms. They are just categorizing the reservations they have, they have more savannah view reservations than they have rooms available facing the open savannahs. Better to know now than find out at check-in.

They are not crediting the points difference until after the stay, which makes me wonder if there are cancellations that you may still have a chance to get a room facing one of the open savannahs.

I got a call yesterday. We were waitlisted for AKV so I was excited to get the call, since I did not know that we got our waitlist. But the catch was that we are in Sunset Savanah. This will be our first stay at AKL so I was a little diappointed about the view, but I have gotten over it quickly and DH and I are just excited that we get to stay there!
