We're renting points for our next trip and because of the savings, we're debating. Should we go for a 2BR or 2 individual studios?
Are there any benefits (other than the laundry facilities in room) to a 2BR? It will be my parents with my disabled brother and DH, myself, and my toddler. The studios are cheaper, but it's now affordable to do a 2BR. I don't know which would be better.

I have not stayed at AKV yet, but I did just stay at SSR on developer's points. We had 4 nights in a studio and 2 nights in a 1 BR. It was just me, my DH, my DS12, and my DS10. When I bought into DVC, I swore I would stay only in studios because it was the better value; however, after staying in the 1 BR, I now swear I'll never go back to a studio. The amount of room is what did it for me. It was also nice to have the washer/dryer (even though I didn't do laundry, it was nice to be able to throw wet clothes into the dryer) and the kitchen (even though we didn't cook a full meal, we used it for a quick breakfast each morning and found that having the dining area was great!). If the 2 BR is affordable, that's the way I would go! Good luck in your decision!

Dont discount the whole livingroom area that's in a two bedroom plus the Kitchen.

Even if you only use the kitchen to heat up left overs and have cold water, it's worth it.

You have no guarantee that they will be close to each other. A studio will have one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa.

A two bedroom (dedicated) will have one king bed, two queen beds, one queen sleeper sofa and one twin sleeper chair.

A two bedroom (lockoff - can be converted to a one bedroom plus a studio) will have one king bed, one queen bed, one double sleeper sofa, one queen sleeper sofa, one twin sleeper chair.

Unless you get a value two bedroom (only in Jambo House) and it will be a lockoff with no twin sleeper chair.

If you can get a 2 bedroom in Kidani, you will have 3 bathrooms. Also a dedicated 2 bedroom would have 2 queens in the second bedroom vs a queen and a sofabed.

i vote for the 2 bedroom. When we went last feb with the parents, we got a 2 bedroom. At first we were going to do the 2 studios, but you can't get connecting studios, and they aren't guarenteed to be close to one another.

You get the kitchen. LR (with a bonus tv and bathroom). washer/dryer.
So, you can bring some easy snacks, microwave stuff for a quick snack or make a dinner on the cheap.

So if some of the group wants to be up. There would be the master and the second bedroom for early sleepers. While the rest talk and gab in the LR.

The same is true for early risers. They could head to the central bathroom to shower, or head to the lr tv, or kitchen to eat breakfast.

Plus, the more real beds in the 2 bedroom dedicated, might be a big bonus,

Have a great trip

We faced this same question a few years ago (so not at AKV) when we were vacationing with our adult children. I'm surprised that I haven't noticed anyone mention the washer/dryer (although maybe I'm not seeing well at this hour). Two bedroom has one, studios don't. And if someone's asleep in both bedrooms, you can come out and make coffee, use the microwave, etc. And in a 2 BR, you have 3 TVs, only 1 each in a studio. In our family, all 3 TVs were on at night for 4 people-DS#1 and DH-sports, DS#2-BET Jazz, me-Disney "Propoganda" channels and Stacey.

I agree with the 2 bedroom ideas, but I also wanted to mention that if you have a disabled person in your party, the 3 bathrooms for a Kidani 2 bedroom will be a big plus.

I would be concerned though with staying at Kidani with my brother since there is no counter service there. We would have to trek him over to Jambo when we wanted to eat. It's a half-mile (or so I've heard) b/w Kidani and Jambo and I'm afraid he would end up stuck in the room while we retrieved things for him...although I am tempted to stay in a brand new place!
Does anyone know if there will be elevators in Kidani? I'd rather not stay on the first floor, although I probably won't have much say.

Yes there will be elevators in Kidani, and there should be "grab and go" options in the gift store and maybe at the pool bar. And it might be worth renting a car for one day to stock up on some food options, or to use Garden Grocer or Wego shop to have food stuff delivered.

If you have the points for a 2 BRV and dont mind using them, I would recommend that over 2 studios; assuming the sleeping arrangements of all party members would be met comfortably and also asuming that the party members would get along being in the same house to speak for the duration of the trip. With the 2 studios you wont have a living room, dining room. kitchen, jacuzzi tub or laundry facilities within your room. The extra rooms and amenities will provide for a great meeting place for the party members, a place to hang out and relax and enjoy one anothers company, a means of saving money on the food portion of your budget (even if you eat breakfast only in the room) as well as being able to pack only 1/2 of the clothes you will need and use the in room laundry.

This to me would be is a no brainer... 2 BRV over 2 studios if the points permit.

Posted that as part of a reply to your other thread...

Does anyone know if there will be common areas in Kidani? Like a lobby? My dad loved WL because of the massive lobby and I know Jambo has a lobby, but I didn't know what would be available in Kidani since it is exclusively DVC. Thanks for any help! We're still trying to decide. I would prefer Kidani because it will be brand new and have the third bathroom which would be great fo rus.
