Still trying to figure this out so please bear with me....

IF we decide to buy in at Kidani for the 100 point promotion, and IF we get a July UY....
1) I assume we'd receive points on July 1, 2008, yes?
2) Since it would more than likely be Kidani, those points cannot be used until May 1, 2009 (or official opening), right?

If the answer to the above 2 questions is "yes", I assume those points then must either be banked or used ONLY between May 1 and June 30, 2009?:confused3
And if the construction were somehow delayed and Kidani didn't open until June, you'd have only a month to use those points?:confused3

FWIW, we're thinking about a Dec UY since we're not planning on traveling from Sep-Dec. If we got 100 points on Dec 1 2008, we'd bank them anyways since we're not planning on another trip until 2010.

You are correct, you would either need to bank them or use them in the six weeks that is left in your UY. Look at it this way, it's almost like they're giving you a year's worth of bonus points...

If you receive 2008 UY points with a July UY, you can bank 100 % of them anytime between July 1, 2008 and the end of February, 2009. You can use your 2008 UY banked points anytime between July 1, 2009 and the last day of June, 2010.

DVC does not sell a July use year. Available use years are February, March, April, June, August, September, October, December.

Thank you for all your answers. I think I am clear on it now. DH has told me that even IF we buy in and IF we got the DP's, we are NOT going to Disney World in 2009.:headache: That's why I figured the DP's would go to waste if we even got them. He then corrected himself and said that HE's not going, but I can take the kids and go without him. Hmmm....that's a thought!

OK, I have another question...

As we get closer to HOPEFULLY buying, I would like to get the whole MF thing clarified. If we get a December UY at Kidani, I assume that we will receive 100 points on December 1, 2008, right? Since MF's for 2008 were due January 15, 2008, would we be paying them at close? And, if we are, I would assume that they would be somehow prorated since the points aren't even usable until May 2009? What amount of MF's would be due on January 15, 2009 then? :confused3 I am assuming the following: Since 2008 MF's at AKV are $4.71/point for 12 months, the total would be $471. Since the points are fonly usable for 7 of those 12 months, I would assume that the 2008 MF's would be $274.75 (7/12 of the $471). I would also assume that this would be due at closing and then the full 2009 MF's would be due on 1/15/09? FWIW, we plan on doing a lump sum for dues vs. monthly direct debits. Oh, I can see that a December UY is going to confuse the pants off of me!:rotfl2:

Let's see. MF's are totally independent of use year; they are based on calendar year. In your scenario, if you buy a new set of points (either initial buy or add-on) and get those points for the first time in December, then your 2008 mf would be 1/12th of the 2008 mf. Then in January 2009, you would owe 100 % of the 2009 MF.

Hmmm...I thought if you bought into Kidani your MF were on hold until May when it opens. Seems I recall they couldn't charge for something that didn't exist with legal occupancy status yet.

Now that begs the question that if they are on hold until May, will the MF be prorated for May to December?

I must admit that I am a bit confused now that I think about this.
:confused3

You are correct if your unit isn't open until May, then your MF's won't start until May and you will pay 7/12. I guess I didn't read the post close enough. I had the same thing happen to me last year. I bought my AKV points before the unit was open. Therefore the MFs didn't start until the unit was open.

So, although I would receive points on Dec 1, 2008, there would be no MF's due for 2008 because Kidani isn't open yet, correct?:confused3

That is correct. I just purchased with a Dec UY at Kidani. I get my first 100 points in Dec. 08 and pay no fees until next May. I assume they are a partial rate for the year but can't remember exactly. Also, we did not get any developer points.

The no developer points is because you only bought 100 points, right?

Right, if we would have purchased 160 points we would have received the developer points. We had already rented points for our trip this year so that wasn 't such a big deal to us. I am a teacher so there was no way we could go again within a year of our purchase. I am sure we will add on in the future, perhaps on our trip in Dec. Hoping on some good incentives, that would help make our decision! ::yes::.

Alrighty...I've gotten such great info here...

We've figured out (thanks to the helpful folks here on the DisBoard!:disrocks: ) that we will probably want a June UY. So, IF we buy in the next 2 weeks, would we get 2008 points? I am referring to buying in at AKV (Kidani) for the 100 point buy-in special. IF we DO get the 2008 points, they would expire May 31, 2009. Since Kidani doesn't open until May 1, would we only owe 2008 MF's for 1 month? I'm trying to figure out if we'd get 2008 points because I want to take my kids and a friend again in June or July of 2009. I can justify this to DH by explaining that the 2008 points will go to waste if we don't go again until 2010.

OK, I can't answer many of your questions, but I can answer a couple of them.

1) If you get 2008 points, then they would expire on May 31, 2009. So, you should bank them immediately (unless you are taking a May '09 trip).

2) MFs are based on calendar year not use year. So, if your unit opens in May 2009, have a June UY, and get 2008 points, then you would pay 8/12 of the 2009 MF.

they can't charge you MFs for a unit that doesn't exist yet. so, you wouldn't be paying MFs for 2008, only 7/12 of 2009.

Typo - I think that you mean that the points will expire on May 31, 2009, not 2008 with a June UY, correct?
