My family wants to stay at AK. There are 7 of us so I thought a 2 bedroom would be perfect. The only problem is that one of the people in our party can't do a lot of walking. We also use the refillable mugs alot. Are there any 2 bedrooms in the main building? What are the odds of getting something in mid August? Lastly, will the new building have a spot for refillable mugs?

Thanks for your help!!

Not sure which you are referring to as the main building but 2BRs are the vast majority of all DVC rooms in both Jambo (AKL) building and the new Kidani building, with most of those being lock-offs (combined 1BR and studio; all 2BRs in Jambo are lock-offs, Kidani will have some dedicated 2BRs). Unknown if new building will have refillable mugs but doubtful since there will not be any quick service food place where you usually would get refills. Don't know chances for August at 7 months out although generally members on this site have been reporting ability to get AKV 7 months out except for concierge rooms.

If walking is an issue, you should request a room close to the lobby area in either building as the walk to the lobby gets to extemely lenghty the further you go down the wings of the buildings.

All the DVC resorts have 2 bedroom villas available in all buildings (that might not be true at VB, but I'm not sure). The only way to know about availability during a specific time is to call when you are ready to make the reservation.

I can't answer your refillable mug question, since we don't do those at all.

My guess is that you'll be able to refill your mug at the poolside bar at the Kidani pool area. I know at BWV that's the case.

I called today to find out the answers to my questions. At this point, there are no 2 bedroom villas available in Jambo. There were 2 bedrooms available in Kidani (not sure how to spell it!). Not sure if I spelled it correctly.

The CM I spoke with felt that there would definitely be a spot to refill mugs as this section would be a stand alone section with it's own lobby, pool, restaurant etc.

The only real issue is that for 7 of us with park hopper tickets and the meal plan: it is over $10,000. (We could also stay in 2 club level rooms for close to the same price.)

It seems nuts to spend that much money on one week. Anyone else out there have a large family???

You can save quite a bit by NOT doing the meal plan. You do realize your 2 bedroom villa will have a complete kitchen. You can save a LOT of money by cooking breakfasts and some other meals in your villa along with snacks purchased from a grocery store instead of those high park prices. Use undercover tourist for discounted tickets and plan on only eating out one meal a day, and you will find it will cost a LOT less! Sure, it requires a little creative meal planning, but I can guarantee you will spend FAR less that way. Just having fruit, sandwich makings and pasta goes a long way for quick easy inexpensive meals while on vacation. Besides, it's always nice to have a midday break, and we often use those for our in villa meals. It really shouldn't cost you any more to feed your family that week in Disney than it does to feed them at home.

you can get a 2-bedroom lock off in the Jambo house - would go for a standard view (pool view) if you want to be close to elevators, bus stops, gift stops and not too far from the food court. (not to mention the lovely lobby)

you can walk down all the halls - they have big windows in several places - so you can see the animals with a standard view.

We only have a family of 5 but we are planning on skipping the dining plan this time and cooking all but 1 of our breakfast's in our room. We are planning on 1 counter service/snack meal per day and 1 sit down meal per day. Our breakfast usually is bagels, english muffins, cereal, pop tarts, I might venture out this time and do pancakes one day and eggs one day. If we eat breakfast in our room, we will usually do a snack in the afternoon or a quick service meal and then a sit down dinner. Or we have done a late lunch, which is cheaper than dinner and something small around early evening.

I opted for the 2 bedroom lockoff in Jambo house/Value for our upcoming trip. It will be a great way to save money, as there are several viewing areas to see the animals. I know my kids, they will want to look, but after 5 minutes, they'll be ready to do something else. Sitting on my balcony all day looking at the giraffes won't be happening.

I throw 5 cold bottles of water in my back pack, and I've never been asked to remove them at the check point. I bring the crystal lite single packets to make iced tea or lemonade. Go to a water fountain and refill your bottle.

Usually we get the kids a popcorn or ice cream but if we have a breakfast this will usually hold them to dinner time.

My brother went to Disney recently and did the DDP without the park hopper option to save money. That worked well for his family, they were there for a week and just went to one park per day!

Have fun planning, there are alot of ways to save money!
