AKL yay or nay?

I've booked a pool view room at AKL for nov. but I've been reading reviews(idk why I do this to myself) and people keep saying that the rooms are dated and badly in need of refurbishment! How true is this really? I don't think I will switch resorts, don't think I can, but just looking for some reassurance that this wasn't a bad choice!

We just got back and I have to say we loved it. We rented points, so we had a studio on the 5th floor. I didn't feel our room was dated at all, not sure if it's different than the regular rooms. I will say that I do feel the savannah view is 100% worth it. We booked a standard view because we didn't think the extra $$ was worth it. We were wrong. We ended up being given a savannah view. We saw so many animals. I'm not sure that I would have liked the hotel if we didn't have that view!! It made it SO WORTH IT!

Well, maybe some of the rooms at AKL are in need of a refurb(I don't know) but generally speaking it's a beautiful resort. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

We will be at AKL in November, too! We stay there often and have never had an outdated room. The decor is on the dark side and not exactly my style, but it fits the theme of the resort perfectly.

We were there 2 weeks ago in an Arusha view room at Jambo. The room was very nice, the carpet looked like new, the room was spotless. No need for refurbishment in my opinion. As the pp said, the decor is a little on the dark side, dark furniture, but that is the theme of the resort.

My fave resort. IDK how the regular AKL rooms are but our villas at Kidani are always really nice.

Glad to see all the positive reviews!! We will be there in Oct for our first disney trip and I've also been second guessing myself but for us it's really too late to switch bc everything is sold out except POP & CBR.

AKL is miles above POP and even CBR. I would never switch. Have fun!

Having stayed at all 3 I agree! I would rank AKL>>Pop>CBR

Well be there in October too! It's our home resort, but only our second visit to AKL! It's awesome, enjoy!

We just got back on Sunday after a 5 day stay. It was awesome! We also had a pool view and the convenience was terrific. Next time I would like a savannah view but you will not be unhappy. The room was in great shape and the buses were no problem at all. Have a great trip!

I have to agree. I would have a hard time staying anywhere else other than the AKL.

As others have said, AKL is pretty awesome. The pools are great, there are lots of food choices, and there are tons of places to see animals. AKL has it's own Savanah (it is not shared with the theme park), so what you see at the hotel is unique.

That said, look at pictures online and make sure you are okay with the African theme. If so, then you won't be disappointed.

I would not change resorts, wife and I love AKL. It has my second favorite restaurant, Boma (right behind Ohana at the Poly). I don't go out of my way to search for reviews on WDW resorts we are staying at; but if I find one on pages 1-3 (rarely go further in) I will read it. I have never changed a reservation based on a negative review!!! And I have never run into any of the problems written or had any issues that had negatively affected our stay. As I have written in previous posts about this topic, if I had changed my choice because of a review from someone else; I would have missed out on some Magical Disney family vacations.
