AKL with an infant

I booked AKL for June and I will be traveling with an infant (about 2 months - he's not born yet). Has anyone ever attempted the buses with an infant. I'm really trying to keep to a budget and a rental car would put me over. I know a monorail resort would be perfect, but again, it doesn't fit into my budget. Does anyone have any advice?

I dont think you should have any problem. When we stay there for our honeymoon in April 2002 the buses were pretty much empty every time we were on them ( except when we left fantasmic. I would just make sure you have the baby in a sling or a front pack ( carrier) before the bus gets there so you wont have to struggle with a stroller when it gets there.

Hi,
We just stayed at AKL with a 7 week old in Februaury. We didn't attempt to use the busses because we had a rental car. I don't think you should have a problem taking the busses around. We had a great time with our baby. Even though he was only 7 weeks old we took him on a lot of the rides. He loved looking around at everything. Just remember the sun is strong and since babies can't wear sunblock to keep him/her covered. We hung around the hotel in the morning and went out to the parks in the late afternoon. Have a great time with your baby. We are taking our son back in May.

The only problem with a baby on the bus is that you will have to fold up your stroller, which isn't a really big deal. Just make sure you have one that folds up easily. A front carrier is also nice at that age. I thought AKL was about the same price as Contemporary Garden Wing rooms. That is where we are staying, so we can walk to MK and monorail there as well as to Epcot. Usually you don't have to fold strollers on the monorail.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll definitely have to get a sling. I'm so worried about attempting this with an infant that I'm ready to cancel. I'm also worried about the sun since I can't put sunblock on him. I think CR garden wing was about $40 more a night. I'm also being a little selfish. I've always wanted to stay at AKL and since we don't plan on getting AP's again after this year, we want to take advantage of the AP rate.

As long as you are traveling with someones else who will be able to help you with the stoller you will be fine. AKL is a great resort...lots of shade by the pool area too. A sling might be a good idea, but remember it is very hot in Florida in June...and a sling that swaddles the baby might be very warm.

Be VERY careful in the sun if you wont be using sunblock on the infant. Sun posining, heat stroke, sunburn are all real & serious possibilties especially in an infant. Make sure the baby stays well hydrated & cool (light airy clothes, a sun hat, etc). A sling is a great idea & really a must have.

We did the buses with a 9 month old & there were no problems. DH would take care of our stroller & I would hold DS.
