I just booked AKL for 3 weeks from now. It will be me, my sister, my DD3 and her DD2. We are staying for 3 nights at AKL savannah view, and then driving to Ft. Lauderdale to visit our dad.

We will not be doing any parks, just enjoying AKL. I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find it. What is there to do with 2 toddlers at AKL?

Thanks!

Oh! And are there any first floor savannah view rooms?

I don't know about Savannah view on the first floor but my son who was 3 and a half last fall, had a blast just watching the animals. We walked all around the property and we spent a good deal of time discussing the animals. By the time we left he knew the names of the large mamals (including the Ankole Cattle) and could tell you where they ate their food and where they were hiding. He still talks about it! In fact he told me the other day that he wants to take "his" new baby there to show him the animals ("his" baby isn't due until July so we will have to wait a while!)

The resort also has a very nice pool. We spent the rest our time in the parks and so we didn't hang around at the hotel a whole lot!!

have fun!!

Cookie decorating at Boma and crafts by the pool kept my DD's entertained.

AKL pool (Uzima pool) is a zero entry pool, there is a kids pool and playground as well

The lobby is also quite nice and there are a number of activities going on

I believe regular Savanna rooms are floors 2-4

thanks

There are no Savanah rooms on the first floor. They start on the second, as the animals will cross the wires once in a while and the space is used for storage. When you check in, you should be given a packet of info about the lodge, including all activities with times. There is cookie decorating, craft making, story telling, and a Hidden Mickey hunt. And other things I can't remember! I travels with a 10 and a 13 year old, so we did the Hidden Mickeys, it was great fun. The animals can be seen at a lot of places in the lodge, and the pool is great for the little ones, zero entry. There is also a very nice kiddie pool. I hope you have a wonderful visit, the lodge is beautiful, the service was excellent when I was there last year, and it is so peaceful to see the animals at night.

The animals will keep them happy for quite some time. My kids were 3 and 5 when we stayed there and loved to animal watch. There is a teeny playground, but my kids loved it. They spent huge amounts of time in the pool. There is storytelling around the fire at night, but my kids never wanted to leave the water! To sit out on the balconey and watch the animals come in to eat in the early morning is so peaceful. Mornings can be hectic with little ones but not at AKL.

Thanks for all the info!!

Is the cookie decorating allowed for the moms too? My sister said she had seen it on tv (maybe a disney special on travel channel?) and that there were no adults doing this. Obviously our girls are too young to be left alone.

I thought I had read that the savannah rooms were only on floors 2 and higher. But when I called to book, the CM told me they were floors 1 - 4. So I thought I would check here with the experts. (I don't want first floor - I like to be higher up)

Where is the craft making done?

Oh and does anyone remember how much some of the activities cost? Like the cookie decorating?

Thanks!!

Not sure of the actual cost of cookie decorating or other activities, but it is all listed on the back of one of the information sheets when you check in. We were there for a week last year when our DD was 2 1/2 and she had a ball. She adored their zero-entry pool. It was lots of fun walking around the hotel to see all the animal areas. They also have a small playground with a sand area that kept our DD quite occupied. The AKL is definelty a resort you can go to and enjoy without going to the parks. I think you'll have a fantastic time.

Oh, forgot to mention with the cookie decorating parents are right there with the children.

Hi,

I just booked a AKL Standard Savannah room. I have my DD 4 and DS 2 traveling with me. Never been to WDW but this place sounded too wonderful to pass up. Love the idea of the activities and the zero entry pool too, cause DS is kind of fearless, so this is perfect :p

What would you suggest the best Savannah view is and what floor?? Would prefer non-smoking.

Thanks!

Denise
